For my runs, I currently use some compression underwear that has pockets along the side for holding my phone. It’s great for keeping it in a position that I don’t even notice it’s there and it never bounces. However, some seems along the bottom are creating some chaffing problems. I don’t care about monitoring my phone and don’t listen to music, I just want it in case of emergency. What are people using for their phones while they run? Suggestion on ones that are very comfy?
I use a Camelbak Delaney which holds my phone in the pocket and a water bottle on the small of my back, works really well so long as i keep it tight
.
I use a “Fanny pack†which was a race give away at 70.3 Campeche. Phone fits perfect. I have seen similar products on Amazon under $ 20.
I like to leave my phone at home when running.
Hubby and I both use SPI belts. Super simple and versatile. https://spibelt.com/
I use a flip belt. Holds phone and keys, plus if you need money and cards. I don’t feel it at all. I got the zip version and the zip pocket holds my phone perfectly https://flipbelt.com/
I use a Chinese non brand belt from Amazon.
The biggest limiter was to find something kinda waterproof since I am a heavy sweater.
Gotta readjust a little maybe after an hour but that is it.
Nothing special, keeps the phone dry and is not bouncing.

Second the flip belt
My shorts have pockets that fit my phone, Patagonia. I only take a phone if I’m going on a long trail run in an unfamiliar place.

I use an arm band holder.
I use a “Naked Belt,†which is a much nicer version of the Flip Belt, IMO. I put the phone in the back, so it’s at the small of my back. I don’t even notice it. The Naked Belt can carry a lot of stuff and even has holders for a race bib. Can’t recommend it enough.

SpiBelt, as well
Carry phone for pix, mostly, but don’t take nearly as many as MistressK, nor as well

Third. Easy peasy.

Naked Belt is a very solid product. I haven’t used for phone but would expect it to work well.
Use a flip belt as well. Would run without it but the wife asks to bring it in case she needs to call and tell me to come home because our 2 daughters are driving her too crazy! But sometimes I “forgetâ€. I’ll also say I hate wearing things but the belt stays put for me. I push it down below my butt and will only slide a bit depending on my shorts but not too annoying.
I like to leave my phone at home when running.
I prefer to leave mine at home for all sports. But lately I have started bringing it on bike for emergency calls. I feel my runs are short enough that I can walk home (I am literally never more than 4km away even on a long run due to loops). If I was a woman, I would feel more secure with a phone. I don’t have to worry about that angle as a male so I understand those wanting to carry for emergency. I recently had this discussion with some of the folks on our open water swim group who want to bring their phones in their swim buoys and I said, “what do you need that for, if you have a heart attack or a boat hits you, the phone is useless”. I got the reply, “its for when we get back on land and there are weirdos loitering around.”
I biked all over the world with no phone long before mobile phones existed so I am in the camp of “nothing is really going to happen” and if it does I can blurt my wife’s number to a bystander who will call on my behalf (and I did that when I was run over by a bus and would have been in no condition to operate a phone anyway). But I think carrying it on rides does provide a layer of psychological comfort for me even though practically it won’t make a difference.

I have a wife and young kids. I left my phone in my truck one day while my wife and kids were out shopping. Just a short 4 mile run. She was involved in a wreck and was trying desperately to reach me to let me know that she and the kids were on the way to the hospital to get checked out. Luckily a friend of mine knew my usual routes. My wife called her and she came and found me and took me back to my truck so I could go to the hospital.
I carry my phone with me at all times now, not because of concern for only for myself but for concern of what might happen to friends or family.
I use an arm band holder.
Same. It’s pretty convenient and lets me use cheap-o wired headphones that I’m not worried about breaking.
Yeah, I understand all of those angles in terms of others being able to contact us in a timely manner. But my runs and swims are never much longer than an hour anyway. So I will be back pretty soon.
But in otther contexts, I also don’t bring my phone inside important meetings (ex I am giving a speech, or I am in a customer negotiation or an investor meeting, or I am on a flight anyway and I won’t be able do anything). There are many times in my life I have zero phone and its not because I don’t care about others, its because firstly if I was contacted, I would not be able to do anything, and secondly I just don’t want to be contacted because I need to focus on the task at hand.
For a run, a swim, or a ride, I think the risk that arises because I am not contactable is ultra low. My phone and email is ringing off the hook due to my professional life, so I need to disconnect from the world and if my family cannot contact me for 45 minutes, its probably OK. The likely scenario is I cannot help them anyway (It may sound fatalistic, but I am just going with odds).
I do have family I have to care for so I understand your angle. I definitely see the value on rides because they take a long time. Swim and run, they are so short and risk so low, I’ll get home fast enough and there will be no disasters on my side in those sports and if a family disaster strikes I will learn about it when I get home. If I learn about a disaster on the run via phone, I am not sure I will get back any quicker (but most of my runs are 30-60 min…my long runs repeat these loops and I swing back home for aid stations if needed.
I bought an Apple Watch specifically for safety when I’m out. I typically don’t use it as my timing device as its UI for intervals and laps is clunky at best, and I prefer a bike computer in between the aerobars, but I’ll throw it on the other wrist for runs or have it as my only watch for rides. Not nearly as big as a phone, but still has fall detection and the ability to make a call if I need to.
That being said, I have some Lululemon running shorts with compression liner. My few runs in them with a phone resulted in zero chafing,
