For you girly girls running in skirts, I have a question.
I have started running in skirts. These are more like tennis skirts - they don’t have the built-in undershorts. They are cute and they keep my legs cooled down in hot weather. However, I’ve been wearing regular underwear under them and my thighs end up chafing some.
Are there any underwear/undershorts out there that,
Are long enough so as to provide protection against chafing (but not longer than a short skirt), and,
Have gentle gripper legs or something else to prevent them from riding up.
Most of the ones I’ve seen on the market (like Moving Comfort or Champion boy shorts) are too short, or if they’re longer they still often look like they would ride up.
Nicole actually makes a skirt with shorts, called the gym girl (www.skirtsports.com). As far as getting shorts to wear under your existing skirts, I’m not real sure where to point you!!
yeah, i have one of those… it does have the full shorts in it. But I still like the marathon girl skirt better, which only has built-in underwear (i know, i know… spankies). I don’t know if the ‘underwear’ is enough to prevent the chafing though. If not, the gym girl is good too. It’s just more material and therefore heavier and hottier.
I know some athletic companies (I think Nike, Underarmour, and probably others) make girls sports underwear that has a boy-shorts cut. Maybe that would work?
I suffered from pretty bad chaffing in Ottawa Marathon a few months ago when I stupidly wore a pair of Nike spandex and cotton shorts that I had not worn in over a year. I spent a large portion of the race pulling them down as they rapidly rode up my butt.
Lululemon makes fantastic running shorts. They are actually tri shorts with a slightly padded (less than regular bike shorts) crotch which makes them good on the bike and can be worn while running and prevents against “camel toe”. the legs have this rubbery band around the end which sticks to legs so they never budge. They come in cute colours with matching tops and cost around $60 Cdn.
I know everyone looooves bodyglide, but at least for racing, i use vaseline. i think it works better, but everyone will probably disagree with me. it can leave grease stains on your clothes, though.
Ok, ok… I am going to confess to being a workout clothes-whore. I have the transition skirt too. It’s great to use as a race belt on the run b/c it covers up you ass on the run. I like it b/c it’s really light. PHOTO: http://i1.tinypic.com/20at7kh.jpg
I also just found some great new running shorts that are super-duper lightweight. They are from Hind, and I think they call them ‘gym shorts.’ they have the underwear lining in them but it feels like you are wearing a silky nightgown. I got 3 pairs (yellow, blue, and dark pink). They are awesome!!
no transition skirt runs true to size! AND I’M THE ONE THAT TOLD AUSTIN ABOUT THE SKIRTS!!! Austin, I got ya beat, I have a transition, gym girl and marathon girl! I to prefer the marathon girl but the original poster was inquiring about shorts and chaffing and stuff! I’m going to check out those Hind shorts!!!
Lululemon - They do seem to have nice stuff. I didn’t know about that company!
Check out www.smashgal.com. These are the “tennis” skirts I was talking about, that actually look more like running or beach skirts. Super cute and comfy. They come without an undershort, that’s the only issue.
Yes!!! I give you all the credit! You were the original skirt girl!!! I hope you get commission or something!
You’ll love the Hind shorts. They rule. I hate wearing any other running shorts now. I have to do laundry everytime I wear them all… They come in really cool colors, too. And FYI, I was concerned the yellow would be see-thru, but it’s not.
Yeah, I think the transition skirts are big. But they are adjustable. Mine is actually too big, but I can Velcro it to the fabric part and it’s ok.
Lululemon is the best!! I have one of their sweatshirts and it’s SO darn cute, I might just order another one! Totally thick, excellent quality!! This picture doesn’t do it justice, but it’s HOT!
I LOVE the skirts by Nicole DeBoom. we sell them in our tri store and they are a huge seller. All the skirts come with either the longer “biking short” legs or the panty like in a running short. the marathon “dress” comes with a spanky ( well, you have to buy it separate) but it is like the panty in a running short as well. They are all comfortable and work great. I also have the “biker girl” skirt and have biked 100 mile training rides it it. It is very comfortable and it “breathes” while you ride. Nicole did a great job with this line of clothing. Not only is it practical and works well, it makes you look feminine and like a “girl”!.
ok, thanks…now I might be buying a couple of Hind running shorts thanx to you.L
I also endorse the skirtsports/triks marathon girl and gym girl. I workout more in my marathon girl skirts than the gym girl. Very comfy and the spankies do stay in place once you start to sweat. I like the gym girl for doing errands and it is great to wear anywhere where you are walking alot ie; disneyland, a fair, etc.
I wish they had a real picture of them. I have the ‘lemon’ ones (has an orange and white stripe on the side), the ‘topaz’ ones (has a bright green and light blue stripe on the side) and the ‘posy’ ones (has a light pink and orange stripe).
I’d say they run smaller (I wear an XS in both these and the marathon girl skirt, if that helps). I don’t like running shorts that are bulky or big or give you that diaper-butt look. These are definitely minimal and light.
