Running Shorts?

What is the best “bang for your buck” on running shorts? I like shorts that are lightweight and obviously wick away moisture. I currently run in Nike shorts but they are ~$50/each. Are there other brands that aren’t so high but still do a good enough job?

I love these http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpageMRA-NM4RS5.html

Nearly as much freedom as a split short, yet still decent in terms of coverage to go running through town. Coupon code RUNBLOG10 gets you 10% off and Running Warehouse always has free shipping. I’ve had probably 10+ pairs of this model since they started making them a few years ago, they are definitely my favorite running shorts ever and I’ve run in a million different styles.

I love Adidas shorts. I think they are the best shorts out there and you can get them for pretty cheap 30-40. I just had to retire a pair that I have had for 10 years.

i like these brooks shorts. simple, light, perfect length for my modesty

One days I was wandering through Wal-Mart and noted some shorts in the women’s section made by Champion. They were a conservative black and silver so I decided to give them a try and they still work well several years later. I have like four pair now. Thanks to societies wholesale acceptance of men wearing only long, nasty “basketball shorts” you can’t find any decent running shorts in most men’s sports sections at places like Wal-Mart or the chain sports stores.
They have weathered one to two washings a week for a couple of years now and only cost about $10.

And if you can find anything that fits in liquidation (which usually has a good number of items) you can use code FB15D for 15% off, but that only works on sale stuff.

Marshalls or TJ Maxx and whatever is on sale/cheap.

Soccer shorts work well too. The shorter and looser the better imo.

I’ll admit as a thin(by societies standards not ST) male I have a number of pieces of clothing for the opposite sex – leather jacket and running shorts as two examples. I also have kids belts as they are 1/3rd the cost and come in an appropriate size.

Only the jacket identified the sex so I ripped out the tag so they are is no confusion.

  1. DeSoto run shorts
  2. Brooks Sherpa run shorts

Both have small pockets to hold a gel, iPod nano, key, or cash

I generally get full split shorts from one of the various outlets (Adidas, Puma, Pearl Izumi, Nike etc) in the outlet mall near my house. I haven’t paid more than $20 a pair yet. The PI ones seem to fit best.

As a road cyclist who has been dressing like a spandex alien for years on the bike and a long time competitive swimmer who grew up in a Speedo, split running shorts are the least of my modesty / fashion police crimes. IMO, split shorts simply work better. I see so many guys out running in basketball shorts. I simply don’t get it, it’s like swimming while wearing jeans.

I have about 5 pairs.

Are you seriously knocking basketball shorts while wearing womens shorts? There is something not right about this.

To the OP, yeah $50 seems expensive, but think of all the times you will wear them before they wear out and it will most likely be a few cents per wear.

Check Zobha.com sales, SierraTradingPost.com, 6pm.com, Amazon.com and Geartrade.com for deals on shorts tht you either already have or would like to try. When the deals are too good to pass, it never hurts to try new things out and give them away if not good for you. I like nylon shorts from Rei brand or The North Face because they don’t ride up my triangle.

I’ve used many running shorts and the absolute best in terms of quality, fit, weight, and price are BOA running shorts. They are so light in fact, that the first time I wore them, I thought I forgot to put shorts on.

Ding ding ding! I found some New Balance shorts for $15 and some “Hind” shorts for $10. Both came with a brief liner and they are just as comfortable as my $40-$50 Nike shorts. TJ Maxx is pretty awesome. On an unrelated note, I got a 6 pack of Saucony socks for $9 there.

^^^^This
TJ/Marshalls will have the Nike/Adidas/ASICS shorts for ~$15.

Wander around clearance sections of Nike outlets. Just got my last Nike shorts originally 49.99 outlet price 29.99 on clearance for 15 and 50% of that for the long weekend total 7.50 plus tax.

These are, uncontested, the best running shorts you will find. And they are also the cheapest at $11 a pop. They are 100% nylon and extremely comfortable, they have a liner, construction is fantastic, the cut is nice and short. There is a small pocket for a key. Elastic waistband, no drawstring. I’ve worn expensive adidas, nike, etc. shorts and honestly none of them compare to these cheap cheap $11 shorts. Just look at the reviews on amazon.

Soffe running shorts, also called ranger panties because they are used by the military for physical training.
