Are there any decent running/shorts shoes for kids?
I get the feeling that there isn’t and the trainers available for kids are basically crap fashion things
Any recommendations?

Brooks Pure Flows start at about that size. Picked up some for my daughter last year.
I think Kids size 12 and you start getting into little kids versions of all the same adult shoes. Kinvaras, Ride, Virattas (if you want your kid in minimalist shoes you know), etc.
Remember, in the US, there’s both little kids/toddlers sizing then kids sizes… then adults.
Anything smaller than size 1 is considered a preschool size. There are some choices in that size range though. New Balance 860, 880, 890, Brooks PureFlow, Asics GT1000 are some. While these are all better shoes than the basic department store offerings, whether a child of that size will be able to notice any appreciable difference is questionable. Most children will outgrow the shoe before they wear it out.
