Running Recommendations for Dallas/Irving, TX

I’m going to be in “Big D” this weekend to watch some football. I am looking for a good place to run 10-12 miles on Sunday morning. I’m staying in the Las Colonias area, but don’t mind driving for a good place to run.

Thanks in advance.

Google Whiterock Lake Park for directions. I believe it is 10 miles around that lake.

Whiterock is great as recommended in another post, but here’s one right in Irving/Las Colinas.

I would also recommend White Rock- I used to do some long runs there when I lived in Dallas. If you’re staying in Las Colinas it will probably be about 20-25 minutes away, but in my opinion worth the drive! It has a sidewalk/path that goes all the way around the lake, I thought it was 9 miles per loop but I could be wrong.

go redskins! (this week, anyway; next week I’ll root for cincy).

Not sure about Las Colinas area, but White Rock is a great option. 9.1 miles, depending on the exact route you take. Run clockwise and on the east side of the lake you have the option of the flat road or an asphalt running trail with a few rollers.

caution on using Google to get there. There’s some construction on the west-side of the lake which has traffic going north-bound only. You can take 75 to east bound mockingbird, south (right) at the light for Williamson, and then turn left when it dead ends at lawther. You’ll see parking/restrooms on the right.

White Rock is a great run but you are a bit closer to Grapevine lake which has great trails, shade and a bit of elevation. There are early morning swims there too with some of the local tri groups.

Check out http://www.runnersandwalkers.com/wherearewe.htm this the Grapevine RAW club site and has some maps. Should be a great weekend weather-wise as well. Enjoy DFW.

Nothing more to add except to say if you want to run with people and scenery come to WRL. It is a pretty good scene at 630 am. Grapevine is another favorite and the link below is for a great group of folks but (and with all due respect to the LGRAW folks) the route out there is a little boring.

As for Las Colinas (most convenient to you), you can run the Champions trails, but that is not much more than a concrete path around a drainage runoff.

My recommendation- come to White Rock and go to Bar-bec’s for breakfast after (on Garland Road).

If you want to be completely off-road, try Joe Pool Lake State Park. It was good 3 years ago when we lived there, and I hear it’s gotten better. There’s at least a 12-mile loop, might be longer now. Bit of a hike from Irving, though.
