Running Rain Jacket

Looking for suggestions on a good running jacket I can wear in the rain and in 55-60 degree weather for an early spring mary. Any suggestions are appreciated…

At those temps, I wouldn’t bother with a jacket for running. Just wear a good synthetic top. If you insist in wearing a jacket, make sure it is something that vents well, perhaps something that has no waterproofing but just stops the wind.

You’re going to get wet one way or the other.

No jacket necessary in 55-60 rain? I’d still be in a singlet in those temperatures. If it’s super windy, maybe I’ll throw on arm warmers for the first 10K, but a jacket will be annoying when you start overheating 10 miles in. If you are really looking for a jacket regardless, Saucony’s is phenomenal. I’ve had it for at least 3 years now, but I don’t really run in it that much. I do bike in it occasionally.

Gore Tex Active Shell. Hands down the best for high intensity sports because it transports the sweat out. I have the Fusion GT AS (cycling) and it’s the best jacket I’ve ever had. runningwarehouse has them for pretty cheap right now (use coupon FB15D) if you wear M or L.

Yeah, no jacket for me when it hits the 50’s, but for rain and a chill in the air I love The North Face - Better Than Naked Jacket. It’s a bit spendy, but very thin, waterproof, and packs up well.

Consider an Under Armour Heat Gear top - it is snug enough to keep the feeling of rain off of your skin. The fabric is very thin but it will keep you warm at the start, but won’t be too hot as the temps rise.

I wore one in a duathlon that started out around 45F and rose to 65F by the end of the race. I only felt hot in the last half hour or so, and even then it wasn’t an overheated feeling.

If you don’t like the look of the tight top, wear a singlet or short sleeve tech top over top for modesty.

I agree that a full jacket would be too much. If you really want a windbreak, how about a sleeveless wind vest?

Love my old Pearl Izumi convertible jacket.
They now make it one piece to take off both sleeves.

I can’t comment on the new design, on my old one zips the sleeves off and I tend to unzip partially to ventilate as needed.

no jacket required for those temps. singlet/shorts and go! My wife always wears a jacket and then ends up tying it around her waist. Just a big PIA!

I love merino wool base layer/shirt (ice braker, ibex, smart wool…etc), mid weight is good for the temp. range you’re asking; you won’t be cold even after you’re wet.

This morning, I ran to work in the rain. It was about 40-45. I wore an off-brand long sleeve compression top, tights, some Nike running hat and gloves (the only Nike stuff I own, cheap at the Portland outlet store). I was too hot. I should have worn shorts, but I needed the hat and gloves either way.

At 55-60, I’d go shorts + short sleeves and maybe gloves.

Jacket not required at those temps. But if you insist, the brooks LSD jacket is great.

You might want to look into Louis Garneau Climate Grid 2 jacket, realcyclist has a sale right now on that particular model. Blocks wind really well.
