In a discussion with my brother-in-law today, the topic of run paces came up. We live in Texas, but he was giving all of his paces in min/km so it was basically meaningless… While I’ve seen swim and bike speeds in metric, I don’t know that I’ve run across run paces in metric. Do those outside the US usually refer to their run pace in min/km?
Yes…
In my experience, in countries where we use metric (i.e civilised countries) as distances then we also refer to speed in metric…
Swim-min/100m
Bike- 34kp/h
Run- min/km
I live in Canada where everything is metric. I swim in metres, and bike in kilometers per hour(kph), but for whatever reason I always think about my run pace in min/mile.
Thinking in terms of 10k race paces and a few easy conversion points make it easier to understand both systems:
6min/min=3:45/km (37:30 10k)
8min/mi=5min/km (50min 10k)
Other conversions I keep in my head that aren’t so tidy
3:30/km=5:36/mi (35min 10k)
4min/km=6:24 (40min 10k)
I feel dumb for taking the bait, but that was meant to be pink, yeah?

Same here
all metric all the time.
I think only the US and a couple of small third world countries still use imperial.
The 4min mile holds some allure but I am not really sure how long a mile is
American expat here
I used to think in Imperial but now solely in metric. I have lived outside the US for 13 years but only switched over to metric after taking up triathlon.
Can’t imagine thinking about sport in Imperial. Just doesn’t make much sense. I have 100 percent lost miles as a distance unit. Temperature as well.
The one that I still translate in my head is weight. KG is hard - I still think of my weight in pounds and convert to KG

You’re welcome
