Ok…so first run in my new Zoot Ali’i 3.0 shoes…My Brooks Racer ST-5’s were completely worn out, loved that shoe, but the Zoots just looked so very cool. Plus everyone will know I’m a triathlete since I’m running in Zoot shoes now.
First run: After 5 miles the back of the shoe started rubbing my achilles, put a blister right smack dab on my freshly shaved skin. I know I can wear socks to fix the problem, but that’s one of the reasons I wanted the shoe, it was “made” to be worn sockless. Looking for feedback from other awesome triathletes who wear Zoot shoes. Does this eventually go away…as in the shoe breaks in and doesn’t rub as much…or will my tender skin gets used to it after a while?
Here’s a picture of my injury. Not for the faint of heart.

I had a pair last season, never had that issue, but…I’ve heard of others who have.
I think it has to do with the type of foot you have? Or the angle at which your tendon meets your heel?
Something like that…I’ll allow the pros to chime in. Gluck, and thanks for the parental guidance warning.
A couple of things that worked for me…
Body Glide your heel/achilles area. I also put some BG or Aquaphor on that part of the shoe.
This is a Matt Ancona tip so credit goes to him: fold the heel tab down and binder clip it and let it sit like that for a few days.
Did you buy those recently? Where did you get them??
too bad about the blister, but i hope you were kidding about the gruesome part.
Easy fix, cut a vertical 3/4" slit in the heel counter, gives you more room…

Body Glide is your friend.
‘Shaving Nick’ sounds like the gay porno film the Specialized Masters Racing Team released last year after Nationals.
That is one nasty shaving gash. You may need a stitch or two to close it up. Thanks for the gruesome warning because I almost tossed my breakfast when I saw how bad it was. I wish you a speedy recovery.
One more thing, quit being a p*ssy and just use some glide.
I bought a pair and did a half in them with only a 5k run in them before. Very stupid, but not as stupid as me forgetting to put the insoles back into my shoes before going to a race.

Bought them yesterday at a local running store…Fleet Feet.

My wife saw the picture I posted and asked “Who the hell is Nick and why were you shaving him?”
Craig…as soon as I get this bandaid aligned properly on my blister, I’m going out for a punishing 2 mile tempo run…manning up dammit!
'aight…shoe tabs are folded down and pinned with binder clips, maybe that will loosen the tabs up a bit…will man up, use Bodyglide, and worst case I guess I’ll just put socks on in T2.
Or I might go check out the KSwiss Kwicky Blade Light and exchange them
I’ve heard this is VERY common, which is why Zoot is doing away w/ the huge heel tab moving forward.
You certainly should try bodyglide on the area, and same w/ the shoe.
Or put a bandaid over that area (you should do that now, so we don’t have to see that gruesome injury anymore - I almost lost my breakfast!!
Or, you might just get used to it. But I’d go w/ the above, just to make sure it’s not an ongoing issue.

Go get 'em tiger! Have a good day
