Yaktrax
.
I just put short sheet metal screws around the edges of an older pair of shoes. Cost about 50 cents, if that.
I agree, give the screw shoes a try. Very cheap, easy, and decent traction on everything from ice to slop.

i picked up a pair of the yaktrax pros a couple days ago (with some merino wool socks) and had the chance to use them yesterday.
went for a run on some snow covered trails for about half the run and snow covered city streets the second half. what a pleasure to have
warm grippy feet on a sunny, snowy day.
love 'em! i was getting pretty bored with the treadmill. bring on the snow!
I like/use icebugs. In Alaska, we have plenty of season to use them.

Screws around the edges of an old pair of NB’s. I ran 12 to days after a decent snowfall with ice underneath the snow. I didn’t slip once.
I will second what others have said about the tile though. Its like being on marbles.
I am not a fan of Yaktraks . . . unless you are running in deep snow and no pavement is involved.
The Due North line of products work the best for me - http://www.surefoot.net/products_details.php?cat=89&prod=7
The “All Purpose Traction Aid” is advertised as the most durable, but the “Everyday Traction Aid” works just as well for me. I have used them for years with no issues.
The distinction for me is that the carbide tips are much more “grabby” and do not interfere with my biomechanics as is the case with the mass of plastic and steel on the underside of the Yaktraks.
