I get my first ever trip to California sometime soon. Are there ary good spots to get 10 miles in around Sacramento and Stockton?
The American River Trail is pretty nice. Stockton and Sacramento are really far apart, are you staying in one or the other?

I second the American River Trail.
I’ll be staying in Sacramento. Any favorite parts of the America Trail, how about Folsom area?
Upstream or downstream…
I grew up in Sacto and always thought it was one of the best places to run. My high school, Jesuit, was a half mile off the American River Parkway. While there were only two options, upstream or downstream, I always thought we had the greatest training grounds.
The American River has a paved bike path that runs for 30 or so miles. Most of the route also has a dirt (cinder) shoulder. More impotent, there are horse trails further off the pavement (this is where we always ran)
My favorite segment of the trail is between Cordova H.S. (approx mi. marker 15) to the fish hatchery (approx mi. marker 23)
If you want 10mi, start from Banister Park (Fair Oaks-) and head down to Sunrise Bridge. If you go east, upstream, you can turn around when right past Nimbus Damn, or 30 min (a name like ottoman leads me to believe that you are fast!) If you decide to go downstream, you will turn around mi marker 16…I think this is around Cordova…
Wanna run 13? I think this is the approx distance around Lake Natomas. This trail did not exist in my Jesuit days, but since has become a popular run for the runners up there.
Let’s not forget Ancil Hoffman Park in Carmichael. Plenty of grass to do your intervals!!
Hopefully this helps. If not, it was fun reliving my yesteryears!

I used to travel there a bit and enjoyed the American River Trail. I would also add on a run through downtown after work and run up the capital steps like Rocky. That town sure had some unfriendly runners though. Never got a head nod, wave, “hey”, or even a glance from another runner like I do everywhere else. Strange place.
If you’re in Sacramento proper, then running along the recreation trail in the American River Parkway is the way to go. It’s very scenic and there is a dg/dirt shoulder to run on. I especially like running between the 8 mile and 14 mile markers.
