Any early morning or late evening runners near the airport? I am here for a conference the first week of June
Just go out around midnight and I guarantee you can get some fast intervals in!
Seriously, not sure youre gonna find many runners there, just be in before sunset. Are you airline industry?
AP US History Workshop
I will just leave my intervals “Open” on my Garmin
.
How comfortable are you running in a city that is full of congestion, ton of intersections with drivers who are anti-pedestrian in any direction you choose? I can’t think of many places I would rather not run than college park.
Car or marta up to midtown and to peidmont park, might have to wake up an hour earlier, but you won’t end up in the hospital.
I lived in Atlanta (Decatur area) since 1996 and just recently moved west. I would not run in the airport/College Park area. It just isn’t a good area. If you can’t drive somewhere to run then I would recommend sticking to the hotel treadmill. There is great running at Cochran Shoals path at the Chattahoochee River, Kennesaw Mt trails, Stone Mountain., Midtown/Piedmont Park/Emory/Decatur areas. I think there are group runs from Phidippides (Ansley Park) and some of the Big Peach Running locations. There is a group run from One Step at a Time Wednesday nights in Oakhurst (Decatur area). You can probably find several running routes on MapMyRun.com. But College Park is not a great area to run.
FWIW I run in college park around the Delta Airlines campus, Hartsfield Dr. and Woolman Place, stay out of neighborhoods to the east. Around Woodward Academy is ok.
Yeah but you know what you’re dealing with. The OP is running with a shiny watch and a smartphone…

…and pepper spray. (No smartphone, lol) And I am 6’4" 210… but that prolly won’t do me much good against a S&W :-/

+1
just don’t do it.
I’m here this week in College Park for seminars too. I didn’t bring my sneaks though since I remember the area being kinda sketchy and, honestly, I didn’t think I’d see the light of day after conference room marathon sessions. Yet here I am with an hour to kill before dinner. Guess I’ll go make a fool outta myself and flip turn the hotel pool from one end to the other.
I already wanna go home. lol
Good luck,

Lol, sounds like a good excuse to go buy a pair of shoes tonight!
A couple of us may go to Emory tomorrow night for the ATC All Comers… you should come!
Would love too, and I’m not above buying some shoes to do it. But after tomorrow’s lovely all day cave session of vendors telling us why their gadget is better than his gadget we get sheepherded onto an 18 wheeler to go to dinner…to talk about gadgets.
Put some miles in for this guy.
And what hurts more is I have an Xterra in two weeks and there are at least 4 good trails within 30 minutes including the old Olympic course. Oh, and did you know we’re in walking distance of the Olympic velodrome?
Gotta try to embrace the company man spirit, I guess! Lol
Cheers,
I’m the CFO of the Atlanta Track Club and tomorrow’s all comers meet is going to be amazing. We have a special 1mile race for members in our Grand Prix series, some super fast HS invitationals and our 5k kicks off at 10:15 pm. This event is free, but you need to register. We have over 700 people from 3 year olds to 80+. Send me a PM if you are going and we can meet up.
You can get in a bunch of distances and really have a blast, but the 5k will be fantastic.

Yes, prolly coming to the 5K, as well as your Midnight Run I may have spoken to you on the phone yesterday? (Or is there a Lisa? Lucy?)

I am assuming the 5k will have some pretty legit talent? Can you ballpark me?
There are pretty fast guys and women on our Elite team that will drop 15:2x and 17:xx respectively. But then you get the range with some 70 year olds dropping 30m or more. It is really a mix.
You must have spoke with Lisa. I’m a dude, she is a she, so guessing it was her or Jill at the front desk.
When you get there, ask any of the staff for Dierkes, they will point me out. I will run with you tonight. What pace you want to hit?
With the sketchy weather and late hour runs, is there any way to know if some events cancelled without actually going to Emory?
Monitor our FB page. Last week we had to cancel the meet as the NWS called for intense storms and lightning. We are in close communication with them along the way. Today is looking great, sunny and hot, but that can change pretty quickly in Atlanta. Hope to see you there!
The Olympic Velodrome was a temporary velodrome out at Stone Mountain, has been long gone, and was no where near College Park. However, there is a velodrome in East Point, which I’m assuming is what you are referring to. http://www.dicklanevelodrome.com There is a MARTA stop very close to the track. They have weekly racing so you might be able to go out and watch some races.

There is a race there Wednesday, actually… never been to one, so I may check it out!
