Running in Bend, OR

Best places to run in Bend Oregon? I will be there Saturday and Sunday of this week.

if staying in town, go down to Farewell Park and run the river or Shevlin Park for singletrack. More adventure, drive out towards Mt Bachelor, right past Tetherow (sp) there is a pull out on the left, or a 1/2 mile down the road ( on left before golf couse)go to the day use area. Lots o river running. Can run all the way to Sun River and beyond if you have the time.

How far do you want to run and what type of terrain are you looking for?

Saturday: 6-8
Sunday:10-12

I would prefer not just roads ( I can do that where I live). Would prefer a trail (paved or not) by a river or something. ??

Lots of good options, for a 6-8 mile run I would suggest the Deschutes River Trail on the Northside of town. Some of it is along the river and some of it is above the river. It is a gravel and rock trail. here is a link to the Bend Trail Maps: http://www.bendparksandrec.org/.docs/pg/400/rid/11333/f/River_Trail_Map2010.pdf Just start at the First Street Rapids and run North on the trail until you want to come back.

For the longer option you could do something similar going South from Drake Park or drive out Skyliners Road to the Phil’s Trails complex. There are plenty of single track trails that are good runs but there are a fair amount of MTB riders out there as well. Another option as mentioned by someone else is to run the Deschutes River Trail south of town. It goes all the way to Sunriver along the river. can be run to along the Haul Road Trail or as mentioned above, drive out Century and park near the Entada Lodge. Trail is just south of the lodge. Run it as an Out and Back. Let me know if you have any questions, I could always Map a Run for you if anything sounded good. Shevlin Park as mentioned is also nice, the main loop is 6 miles but sometimes hard to know where to turn on your first time. Hope this helps.

JJ,

I hate to be this guy, but if you could do a mapmyrun for me that would be great. My main thing is just finding the starting point for these trail runs. Once I am there I will just run and can figure it out, but since I have never been to Bend, a little direction would help.

Thanks!
Jared

I was there a couple of years ago, its beautiful! There are some many trails its insane. My favorite was one along the deschutes river, I can’t remember how far it was but it was amazing. I also rented a bicycle out there and rode from Bend to Mt Bachlor and WOW it was one of the most scenic rides of my life. I believe it was 60 is miles round trip. Bend is a cycling Mecca, consider it

I recommend you take a look at the route of the Haulin’ Aspen Half Marathon trail run. The year I did it, the route was on mostly single track with some fire roads in the mix. The event is Aug. 7th, so it sounds like you’ll be there the week before.

The Juniper Swim and Fitness Facility has a covered (seasonally) 50m pool that would be a nice ending to a warm day’s run. So would the Deschutes Brewery be as well, if you so choose.

Plenty to see and do. Hope you have a great time.

Cheers!

Tumalo falls has a lot of trails and the scenery is incredible. Also like they said as long as you stick to the deschutes river trail you cant go wrong.

Go to Phil’s trailhead off Skyliners Road. Run up Phil’s to marker 18 and down Kent’s. If you want longer, go left at marker 18 to the red cinder road (Rd300), turn right and go over to Ben’s and run down all the way to the trail head. That’s close to the old Dirty Half half-marathon course.

Some folks like to drive out Century across from Marker 32 (where the “P” is on the map) and run to marker 34, then run up Funner and down Tiddlywinks.

A longer run is to drive to Tumalo Falls, run up North Fork, Metolius Windigo over to Mrazeck, down Farewell. Don’t miss the Farewell turn. If you do, you’ll run 13 miles down to Shevlin Park!

There’s a ton more, but that map and that site should help you out. I’m running one of my favorites this Sunday out of Skyliner sno-park: Tumalo Creek, South Fork, Swede Ridge, Sector 16, and Skyliners Tr back to the sno-park.

Jeff

No worries. here are three that I did up.

http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/43232390/ - 7.5 mile Out & Back on North River Trailhttp://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/43233284/ - 6.5 mile Run along South Deschutes Canyon - options along roads near start and finish to make longer.http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/43234144/ - Long Out and Back along Deschutes - can make as long as you want. This is easy to follow and goes to Sunriver eventually.
Hope these help.

Thanks!!!

All those are great suggestions, the river trail is spectacular pretty flat., but a brewery run would be more fun. You can probably get 8-15 miles depending on how drunk you run and get lost between stops. They have a littleBrewery tour wagon that might offer you a hand finding your way home. Drink up.

Did #2 this morning, but tweaked it a little on accident, ended up doing 7.5 total. Beauftiful run and might do 2 loops tomorrow morning. I tried to look at #3, but I have to be a friend of yours on mapmyrun to view it, so I sent a requet. #1 looks good, but since I know where to go from #2 I will proabably just do that again tomorrow.
Thanks!
