I am looking to see if anyone knows and can recommend a good running Doctor in the McLean, Va. (northern Virginia) area. After doing Las Vegas last year, I had a lot of discomfort near my achilles/ankle area. Subsequently, I had an MRI. The results showed a partial tear of the distal achilles tendon, peroneus longus tendon, and flexor hallucis longus. The podiatrist I saw wasn’t too worried about the partial tear of the achilles, as he said it was quite small and may have been there for a while. In essence, he said that I have Haglund’s deformity, aka “pump bump.” I was prescribed orthotics and took several months off from running. I tried to run recently and notice discomfort, not in my achilles nor at the location of the "pump bump,"but below and right next to my ankle. I am trying to see if fellow ST’ers can recommend a good running doctor that can help me get back to running relatively pain free, Thanks!
So when you describe a pain from a race that has left you unable to run, does that mean that somewhere along the run portion that you felt extreme pain and just kept going to the point of creating or severely exacerbating an injury?
It wasn’t extreme pain, just discomfort most of the run.
I recommend Dr. Madden or anyone else over at Reston Ortho. They are all very good sports med doctors.
Dr. Thal @ Town Center (Reston) Orthopedics.
Ray Thal is a bright guy who’s seen a great deal over the years. And, he’s a nice guy.
John
I had achilles issues for over a year. I hobbled after races and at times, I couldn’t walk. Started wearing light weight running shoes. Have not had a problem for over 5 years.
This issue will pass. Again, light weight running shoes.
