I am currently riding a Trek SC and a Madone. Both of the bikes have a BB90 bottom bracket. I have been closely following the Rotor PM and it’s release, but am a little disappointed that it is not currently compatible with a Trek. According to the Rotor Power webpage the BB90 is not on the list of compatible bottom brackets. Here is the complete compatibility chart.
Has anyone heard if either Rotor or Trek has been working on a solution? I assume it’s a problem with available bearing sets, but that’s just my guess. I will not about to swap out the stable for another manufacturer to get the Rotor PM, haven’t won the Powerball… yet! I may be force to buy a Quarq…
I hope that Kervin or Carl will chime in with some promising information.
Lots of rotors on SCs. You simply have to get it in a Shimano-compatible form, not BB30 …so no 3d-plus, for example, but the 3d in a shimano version is fine. Then all you need is the shimano BB90bearings.
I didn’t know this off the top of my head…had to throw the words rotor and SC into the search box…
Have you heard of anyone running the Rotor Power Meter on a Trek BB90 bike? I know the Rotor PMs are few and far between right now, so someone might not have found a solution yet.
Something I’ve brought up to a local Trek LBS mechanic and he said it works but…
I’d be nice to hear others that are doing this and how well it works.
Any chance you’ve got a picture/source? I wonder if he was thinking the SC 7 series. It’s got a BB86.5. Might be the same as the BB86, which is compatible.
I think durk onion may have pointed out the base issue…if rotor has chosen to only offer their PM in the 3dPlus product line, which is BB30, it’s not going to go in a BB90 frame like their shimano compatible 3d products do.
Not the Rotor power meter but Quark with Rotor cranks on my SC. Like has been mentioned - 3D+ won’t work because of the 30mm spindle. I’ve aready tried long and hard to make a 30mm spindle Lightning Quark work and eventually I abandoned it and bucked up for a new Quark.

I had orignially looked into this, before Rotor had announced their PM. Unforunately, I don’t think they’re producing that PM anymore. I can’t find it on their site and I haven’t been able to find it on any of the regular suspects.

Just to appease my interest here, do you know if it’s a spindle diameter (i.e. no bearing to fit in the BB90 with a 30mm opening) or spindle length issue?
spindle diameter. as TH3_FRB and others have discovered by trying to go down that road, there are bearings which have the right dimensions. that doesn’t mean they work very well. had a guy in the office just try it with his SC and an old Zipp vumachrono crank, which also has a 30mm spindle…same result. you might get it to fit…but the drag is ridiculous.
Yeah - there are bearings that “fit” and Lightning actually told me it would work fine and sold me the crank and bearings. In order to be thin enough to accommodate the 30mm spindle and press into the frame they are also very narrow so you’d need to use 2 on each side. I still couldn’t get everything to jive 100%. I’ll sell you 2 sets of bearings if you want to try
