Earlier i posted i was going to get rid of the rotor rings and go back to the rotor cranks to see if my times would get better. Long story short. I started out doing 10 mile tt with rotor cranks 2-3 years ago. I sold my bike with the rotor cranks on it last winter and replaced it with D/A cranks and rotor rings not wanting to give up the weight. Times on the 10 mile tt 2 years ago were 23:15, 22:52, 22:56. I was a cat 5 that year, this year im a cat 3 and a lot stronger then 2 years ago hands down. Last year we switched courses due to construction so it was on this year to see how much time i had improved. This years times were 22:36 (weird conditions north wind not that strong),23:15, 22:58. There was 1 more left this year which was on the 15th. It troubled me because i know my times should be better than that compared to two years ago. I called up the rotor cranks and ordered some. If it didnt get any better i had 30 days to return them right. On the 15th i had my fastest time ever with a 22:03 on the rotor cranks which is were i thought i should be compared to 2 years ago. I always thought they were working a little but this is the true test to me. They are staying on my TT bikes from now on.
Thanks for letting us know. I know I’m faster with mine!! Now if could afford a 4th set for my mountain bike I’d be set. They not only work well for TT’s but they are awesome climbing mountains. I also notice a big difference under heavy acceleration. You don’t get the “clunk” as you come over the top.
I have powertap info on the rotor rings up a 2.5 mile mt with 8.5 % avg grade, and without. Everytime i would have about 15 more watts, and a higher cadence with the same average heartrate. But i didnt like the feel of the rings going up hill even though i was getting more with them i stuck with the regular rings. I like to sit down and climb and they fill different, but out of the saddle they rock, your sprint is really smoothed out. My perfect system would be a rotor ring 53 and a regular round ring 39. I havent tried to see if it would work yet but i dont think it would do very good on down and up shifts in a race.
