I got a code early this morning for 2023. I’ve read some of the older threads about travel logistics and best practices. Does anyone have any fresh guidance to share? Traveling from the US.
I hear homestays are pretty common. Any advice on how to pursue those?
I don’t need tips on the race course. I’ll worry about that later.
Not sure about homestays but for what it’s worth I’ve just been with 'Sports Tours International. ’
At first glance maybe a bit expensive (4 nights B & B in Nuremberg - £1150) but the assistance with the logistics was great. Although I actually drove from the UK, they will pick you and your bike up from Munich and take you to your hotel, this year they used three in Nuremberg. I was in the Arvena Park which is the nearest to Roth, about a 30 minute drive. At the hotel is a room where you can build up and store your bike (if necessary).
Brief itinerary: -
Thurs - Group Run and bus to Roth to register/expo.
Fri - bus to swim practice at Hippolstein and bike course recce, then later in day bus to Roth for registration/expo.
Sat - bike collection and delivery to T1, then later bus to Hippolstein to rack/deposit run bag. Same day they will then take you to Roth for race briefing.
Sun - 3am breakfast and 4.30 am bus to Hippolstein for athletes and supporters. Shuttle buses back to hotel after race starting 6pm.
Mon - bus to presentation.
I’ve also done the race (2019) and camped with camper van. Quite difficult because of parking and road closures etc. Much prefer the hotel/tour option.
Hope that helps.
