He is barely at 4.8w/kg for an hour? According to many slowtwitchers on here, that just plain sucks.
Rory Sutherland’s power data:
Peak 60-minute: 371W (4.8w/kg) on Stage 5
Peak 180-minute: 310W (4.0 w/kg) on Stage 5

You do realize that the peak a pro hits in a race for one hour and the peak a pro would hit for an all out hour are vastly different.
And yeah I know your post was joking.
Geez, what a pussy.
Ah, his peak 60 min power during a bike race is not anything like the same as the peak 60 min power he is capable of.
4.8 puts him at mid level cat 1
but, if we pretend he had an all out 1 hour effort in the bike race from a fairly rested state (and he didn’t) his normalized power could easily be 30 watts higher for that 1 hour which puts him at 5.1 w/kg which is ‘domestic pro’
but again, no way to know how rested he was for that peak 60 minute effort, or if it was really an all out effort, so this is meaningless.
That’s not bad for his warmup.

FWIW, he’s much closer to 6+.
The link says his FTP is 5.6W/kg

Don’t want to show all your cards now do you? I’m 100% certain that is wrong.
You think it’s low or high?
You think it’s low or high?
Definitely low. I’m guessing a good 20-30 watts low, if not a bit more. I don’t know what kind of form he’s in right now, but in shape I’d say around 6.
Even without a little inside knowledge you can look at his past performances and also do some math on the other numbers and reach the same conclusion.
What would be more telling is if they gave us his NP for that hour not just AP. The first 30 minutes or so were very “stochastic” the last bit of the climb you can see where he shut it down.
Got to meet him a few years ago, he came out to the compound here to get fit by dan on his tt bike. He was just becoming a contender in some stage races, so wanted to dial in a good tt position. I think he went on to podium in a few tt’s after that and did well in a lot of his races. Have not really followed him too closely since then, he seemed like a really down to earth nice dude. And he is very tall for a bike racer, no missing him in the peleton.
Absolute animal territory!
You are right. I would say that FTP is probably around .95 of his 20 min power or 450/77=5.84. That makes sense, he is world class but not the best in the world (supposedly around 6.3 clean)
I also think he is in shape right now relatively. His NP for Sierra Road in 2011 (when Horner went thermonuclear) was 478 for 18 minutes and he was definitely in shape then.
Got popped. Better now though. …
I thought it seemed a bit low too. But remember the weather conditions for that race were not great. And it is early March.
Though it makes my epeen feel better because im not that far off.
