Roll Call-- DE Diamondman

Who’s in? Worries, fears, what have your heard? I did it last year–hopefully a real tri this year!

I’m in. Only thing I heard was the possibility of no wetsuits due to our hot summer, but recent data tends to indicate that the temps may be low enough.

I also heard that the run is “rocky”. Is that true or is it simply hardpacked gravel like many park trails?

Good Luck.

I am in and don’t know anything about nothin’ just lookin to close the season with an injury free race.

See you there.

K

I was training for it, registered, and planning on going. But then I decided to injure my knee instead. It was a tough decision, but in the end it seemed to make more sense.

Considered doing it as an aquabike, but my PT says that’s a bad idea.

Have a great time doing it! It should be a ton of fun.

I’m in, my first 1/2 IM. I wouldn’t call them worries, since I’m pretty confident in my training, but I’m hoping my nutrition plan works out and I don’t flat on the bike. Shooting for sub 5.

Was supposed to be my first 1/2, but just got the “Medical DQ” from the MD (of all things, an infection in my eye is keeping me out of this as it’s impossible to wear contacts), so won’t be able to participate. Was really looking forward to it as training had been going well.

At any rate, the canal is my “home course” for running. It is generally packed pretty well. There are, however, some of the stones (1"-2") that lie on the surface scattered around. If paying attention, they are pretty easy to miss. (Also makes you focus on something other than how far you have to go.) If it rains before the race (which doesn’t appear likely), it will make for a nice surface with some give. As dry as it has been, though, it’s pretty hard right now. It’s also flat as a pancake with no relief from the sun. Hope this helps.

Everyone have fun.

“Shooting for sub 5”

Screw you!!!

First HIM for me. I’m hoping the water cools off enough for wetsuits so I can save some energy on the swim. Like to think I can get under 5:30, but I’d be more than happy with sub-6 for my first time out. I’ll learn how my nutrition and pacing holds up.

good luck john K. Judging from your bike prowess, you shouldn’t have too many problems beating me!! That hardpack trail is going to be dry…that will mean dust and it’ll be kinda hot, but not as bad as it could be. I emailed the RD yesterday and he said he hadn’t measured the water temp lately, but he said he thinks it is likely the water will be cool enough considering the cooler evening weather lately. Saturday’s high is lower than recent days, so hopefully it will stay clear nad cool off the night before. As long as they measure it that morning and it is cool enough, we’re good to go. Of course, swimming w/o a wetsuit wouldn’t be the end of the world–even for a rock like me.

Of course, this being my first, I may very well end up getting humbled

I’m in. Would like to do better than last year - 5:25 - but we’ll see. I have no idea where my training is this year. I seem to be alternating between crappy races and good races. If this goes according to the schedule, I’m doomed to a crappy race. However, that makes the iron distance race I’m doing in Oct a good race, so I would be ok with that.

I’ll be there with about 5 or 6 buddies from my Master’s team. It is just a training race for me. I need to get back in the racing groove after IMLP. It will be the only race I do before I’m off for IMFL. Hope to meet some ST’ers there!
