ROKA Team USA Tri Suits?

What do you think?
The kit was a little pricey, but I think the design is very nice and the quality seems good (nice fabric).
This kit is tight. I’m 6’3" and 157 pounds and the size medium shorts and jersey make me feel fat (although the kit compresses your fat pretty well;) I guess it makes sense that if you were using this for a non-wetsuit swim. I gambled and got my name on the kit (no returns), but I guess I would have liked a size large shorts now that I see how this really fits.

I prefer it to the last kit for sure and I’m still trying to figure out sizing myself. I didn’t put my name on it. I’m 5’11" and float from 170-175lbs and went with a MT one piece. It is tight, just not sure if its “too tight” and the legs go to right above my knees. I haven’t decided if I like the fit of the MT yet… wish I had a L and M to compare the fit too, may order one or both since I’m so picky about fit. Supposedly it loosens a bit when you swim in it.

Otherwise my initial impression of it is that I like it.

How long did it take you guys to get your kit after you ordered? I placed mine when the initial order email was sent out many weeks ago and I haven’t gotten any shipping update yet. Might have to give them a call to see what’s going on…

I ordered mine as soon as I received the email. The suit arrived last Friday.

I am 6’ tall, 160lbs and ordered a Medium one-piece. It’s a tight fit. A Medium-tall would probably be a bit too big.

The fabric is very interesting. I rinsed it off in cold water and noticed that the water rolled right off. It’s definitely made for non-wetsuit races. I don’t know how breathable the fabric is. I am still struggling with unzipping on the fly. Supposedly, flipping the zipper up and pulling at the shoulders will unzip the suit. I definitely need to practice otherwise the runs will be warm.

The stuff is tight. I ordered 2 sizes of bottoms and the larger was better. The top, even though it was way bigger than my weight, I basically could not get on. So I ordered the next size up to try. Once I find stuff that fits, then I will send them all back and get one set with my name.

The parade jacket is tight also so have asked if I can try the next size up.

I got mine two weekends ago… probably on the 16-17th while I was out of town. I ordered when they opened it for orders and there never was a “your order has shipped” e-mail that I saw… my order does show as shipped now when I go on the Roka site. So it could show up today.

As I understand they way they are cut/sized, the MT is the same fit in the top and longer in the crotch/legs by a little over the M. The fabric does seem rather swim skin esque… I have haven’t swam in mine(since I’m returning it- no name) and I’m trying to decide if I like the almost to my knees fit of the MT.

From what I’ve seen on facebook there are just too many sizing issues with the ROKA outfit. And I understand there is no pad in the one piece either, and no string or such on the rear zipper. Based on the feedback I’ve read, I don’t think they are ready for prime time and I will use my Tyr one last time … which I do like by the way.

The sizing issue IMO is just getting the right size… which is a pain point for anything you mail order.

The one piece does not have a pad which will be a pain for the long course athletes I imagine… doesn’t bother me as I ride with MMA shorts from time to time that don’t have padding in them.

My ROKA kit is much better than the TYR kit though in terms of comfort/materials/design(IMO) even with me not sure about the sizing. The missing lanyard is the only negative I’ve noted as a negative for me… but it’s not hard to get someone to zip you up.

I am just ordering a few different sizes to see what fits the best.

I am 5 9 3/4 and 154 pounds and purchased a Medium one piece. At first I thought “wow this kit is tight,” but I wore it swimming the other day in a lake and it does loosen up for sure.

In the the fit is great - for me for my size - but I REALLY wish it had a pad and can see no reason - other than they didn’t have enough pads or couldn’t put the pads in in time or ???

Othwise it’s a nice piece of kit

Since you have actually swam in it, is it intended to be used without a swim skin in the event of non-wetsuit swims; or would wearing a swimskin over the Roka improve swim performance?

Received my one piece over the weekend. I’m 6’, 152lbs and went with the ST. It’s definitely a tight fit. I was also quite disappointed to see that there is no pad. I’m racing cross so it won’t be too much of an issue but it will certainly limit how often I’d wear it in future races.

The Roka seb site implies it’s good as-is for non-wetsuit races:

These materials are designed to be ultra fast in and out of the water. The water-repellent finish reduces drag, helps the suit dry quickly, and regulates body temperature on the bike and run.

The suit definitely shed off water when I rinsed it off.

You mean no pad at all as in bare lycra or a thin pad like the kiwami amphibian?

Thanks for the info!

Nothing.
It is the same material/thickness in the seat as it is everywhere else.

You mean no pad at all as in bare lycra or a thin pad like the kiwami amphibian?

Correct. No pad in the one piece suits. The web site explicitly says the one-piece suits are designed for short course racing. The two piece bottoms have chamois.

Shit… I guess I’m in for some very uncomfortable 90mi…:frowning: why the heck would they have no pad, do people enjoy getting their balls crushed or what?

totally missed that part … :frowning:

i wonder how hard it would be to retrofit a pad on

It seems many decisions lately from USAT are made by people who don’t race or don’t have a vested interest other than a paycheck.
