Tonight… The Wall begins in Toronto

Tonight… The Wall begins in Toronto

Well…How was it???
Was it really The Wall material or was that just a tour moniker? I’m thinking about going when he comes through town, nowhere near sold out. If it’s his newer solo stuff that would be disappointing.
Let us know!
Not a good review on last night’s show…
I dunno, I don’t see it until Dec ![]()
you ain’t kidding that’s not a flattering review, but the writer seems to have some issues with Waters at any rate (i agree, his whole capitalist pig approach doesn’t really meet reality, what with $250 tickets and his house in the Hamptons… hypocrisy anyone?). I imagine many of the musical/technical issues are likely more the result of opening night glitches etc.
At any rate, I’ve read reviews (not “professional” ones) that it was very very good, the biggest complaint being that it is just “The Wall,” no encores, no solo stuff. All of that is fine with me, although it is an expensive ticket for less than 2 hours music. But it is the wall, after all, and that’s what I want to see.
Saw a youtibe vid of In The Flesh, and holy shit. It’s really more like a Broadway production than a concert.
My wife got me tix for the Tampa show. I am beyond excited. Never got to see PF tour, I think I was 13 or 14 for the Division Bell. Maybe the guirarist wont sound exactly like Gilmour but it’s easier to mimic a sound, even Gilmours bad assness, than it is to write. Lots of tribute bands pull off decent sound. I would think with Waters insight he could pull it off.
But yes, Waters is a huge egomaniac. I liken him to Axel Rose. At least Waters cant trash the Pink Floyd name like Rose has done to GNR
“We came in?”
Saw the show last night in Chicago - Great Production, wife liked it so much we’re going back tonight… She’s not a floyd fan, she didn’t know what to expect, and she was surprised.
No surprises for me - format was similar to the 1980 shows (from what I was told). Someone mentioned it was more like a broadway show than a rock concert… I think it reminded me more of when The Who did their Quadrophenia tour (wow, really 1996?, time flies),
only issue I had was too much emphasis on tape… for “another brick in the wall”, Waters hired 20(?) local kids to dance to the song, sounded like the “we don’t need no education” refrain was from a tape rather than the kids singing… I guess mr. perfection didn’t want to risk one of the kids screwing up his song.
great job with the visuals.
“isn’t this where”
So the Tampa show was last night. It was AWESOME. One of my best concert experiences. While the guitarist wasn’t Gilmour, he did a very passable job. The singer they had for Gilmour’s parts wasn’t was good, but he got the job done.
Roger Waters sounds just like he did on the album, you could tell he was reaching on some notes, but overall great.
The set was amazing. Totally elaborate with high def projectors, huge puppets, pyrotechnics, etc. Great visual experience. I liked the modernization of the war theme, the tribute cards and the video for Vera/ Bring The Boys Back Home was touching.
Totally worth the price of admission. I would have paid if I hadn’t gotten the tickets as a B-day gift. I definitely would like to see it again.
Did you really just compare Roger Waters to Axel Rose? Axel is a fucking joke.
Yes I did. I am a huge PF fan- I actually was listening to Floyd before I started on GN’R, so I say this with love- the similarities between the two are pretty major.
Huge ego maniacs. Waters almost never had The spot light off him the entire night. Even during the Comfortably Numb solos, there was a light on him.
Both were driving forces behind their former band’s sound.
They both drove the breakup of their bands, and have seen their bands achieve great things without them.
Both owe any recent success to the material of their former band. Yes, Waters had a solo career, but nothing big. His two most recent tours are all PF material. Axel continues to milkand destroy the GN’R name.
O.k. I didnt mean to act like a dick but I think Axel is way way overrated. Roger has a real career, Axel had a few hit songs that don’t stand the test of time and we’re better off without him.
I get where your dislike for Axl Rose is coming from. He’s one of the biggest tools ever. BUT- GnR is one of the best selling, chart topping bands of all time. The Appetite albumn gets very regular air play 23+ years later. That’s not standing the test of time? All their singles from the origonal group still get regular airplay.
I REALLY dislike Kiss and the Beatles, but I’m not going to deny their place in rock and roll.
They both drove the breakup of their bands, and have seen their bands achieve great things without them.
Huh?
Whose favorite PF album is “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” or “The Division Bell”? No one I know.
As for GnR, they never even put out an album without Axel, did they?
Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell both have some very bright spots on them. Still better recieved than any new material Waters put out solo.
The rest of GnR formed Velvet Revolver with Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots- two albumns (I think) until Mr. Weiland relapsed yet again. Some REALLY good stuff there. “Slither” is an awesome track.
Just bumping to say I am going 12/5, but came home from vacation yesterday and as a lark got on stubhub.com to see what kind of tix they had for tonight. It’s about 6 blocks from my office…
They had a ticket on the floor left. 8th Row. $218. WTF??? I am picking it up from stubhub’s L.A. office in about 30 minutes.
Hopefully it’s not for “Robert Walters’ The Wall” gallery show :^
Just bumping to say I got tix. Was going to go the stubhub route, and was willing to pay $400 each… ouch… but got some thru ticketmaster at face value in a decent location, so bought them. My birthday present to me
Looking forward to this…
You will not regret the decision. I saw Waters do the Wall in KC Oct. 30th. It was absolutely amazing. Best $200 I’ve spent in a long, long time.
I went last week in Denver. We waited till the day of to buy tickets and, I shit you not, I picked up first row tickets about 3 hours before showtime on the main ticket selling site for the Pepsi Center (tickethorse.com). My advice is to go to the main ticket agent site and refresh the page every minute or two. They must have dumped all the areas they had reserved for equipment, invitees, etc. on the last afternoon.
BTW - It was AWESOME!
Oh. My. God. Best “show” I have ever seen. Well done, Roger. Didn’t hurt that I was sitting in a $500 seat for $215
Pig hovered 10 feet over my head, homeless guy walked right by my seat. Roger sounded amazing (even though some parts, ie The Trial) were clearly pre-recorded). Band rocked. Not Gilmour, but that’s OK

Responding to myself
Decided to go to the second show on Tuesday night, this time I got 3d row seat for $225, about 6 pm for an 8 pm concert. Even better than the first show, and from a different perspective.
First time I have teared up in a concert (both nights), and probably will again Sunday night.
Well I did what I said I wouldn’t and went to the St. Pete Times Forum and took in the show.
Having seen 6 Gilmour shows it was, eh, forgettable for my money. I realize I’m in the ultra minority in my reviews, but it is what it is.
Let me clarify: the set was insanely neat, um wow. But the music was anything but close to the sound of the PF I prefer which is a Gilmour vocals/guitar set, but to each their own. I knew that going in. My love for PF really grew when Gilmour took over the reigns and I guess that is why the music was so ‘meh’ to me. The guitar was not even close to Gilmour and the DG vocals were atrocious. But I digress, I paid the money of my own accord. I’m sure the finale in the UK with Gilmour will be epic.
Did anyone else catch the amount of pre-recorded material in this gig as well?
To this day the best live show I have ever seen was David Gilmour live at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Best 2 hours of live music in a tiny concert hall.
