** I was curious as whether anyone out there have tried the Rocket 7 tri shoes. Outside of the custom fit, is there any other advantage to these shoes that justifies their cost?**
Insanely light…my roommate’s pair weighs about as much as my Sidi Shadow, and he wears a larger shoe size.
If you use Speedplay/Time pedals…then also lower cleat stack height.

check out lustracing.com for the serious bling, makes R7 seem reasonable.
If I’m not mistaken, SuperDave on this forum uses Rocket 7 custom shoes. It’s hard for me to tell. the only view I ever have of him when we ride is briefly from behind as he disappears over the horizon.
I’ve got a pair of Rocket 7 shoes. I bought them as an attempt to solve a leg length and size discrepency in my right foot. Following a tib/fib break, I had a hard time with clipless pedals. I went from fixed cleat, to Time, and on to Speedplay. The Rockets made the biggest improvement in the comfort and I am astonished at how stiff and light they are. They are going on 4 years old and they are a bit beat up, but still hold my foot tight. With Speedplay pedals, I’m 16mm from the centerline of the pedal on the INSIDE of the shoe where my foot is. This lowered my saddle 14mm from my Northwave/Time combo. The fit is so snug I really don’t need to tighten the velcro straps unless I’m really going to be working the pedals.
Tom - I use shoe covers year round so I’m not suprised you haven’t seen them up close, plus after 4 years, you can almost see the stench so I tend to take them off immediately after our rides.

got a pair last year. took some time to get 'em but they are definitely REALLY light. I still get some hot spots on my feet though. I didn’t ride with them much since I got them pretty late in the season and these days most of my training is on spin bikes.
oh and I got dutied on the casting kit AND the shoes. damn border. (I’m in Canada)
I bought a pair of Rocket7 Tri shoes just before IM Wi this year. I had developed a bad neuroma problem associated with a hammertoe caused by wearing too narrow shoes. I have a 4E foot and was wearing std size bike shoes. The Rocket 7s were great. They allowed me to finish the bike and I was in pain walking the 8 blks to the start! I even managed to finish the run. In 6 Hrs,but I finished! I even wore the shoes without socks for the last 40mi on the bike with no problems. I had NEVER worn the shoes before the race. I had received them only 4 days before the start and decided to go for it, since there was no way I was going to finish in my Carnacs! I change to sockless because I had worn the socks I had planned to use with the Carnacs and I had cast my foot in thinner socks. I was very comfortable without socks and this was in brand new shoes without any break-in! BTW, they are very helpful and even rushed my order, but they don’t seem to respond to their Emails, call them.
