Rock & Roll Man or Gulf Coat?

Hello all,

I’m trying to line up my early season and I’m looking at doing a half in May/June. Anyone done both or either and what did you think?

I have done both. Rock&Roll in '05, Gulf Coast in '01.

I liked Rock&Roll A LOT better. Nicer course, mile markers on every single mile of the bike and run course.

Fun race in my opinion. Definately recommened.

Ciao,

Rock N roll man:
Good course
Good support
Smaller race
Rolling hills
Perhaps not a lot for family or non-racing friends to do. Inexpensive lodging

Gulf Coast:
Flat
Swim could be iffy (currents, etc)
Hot run (usually)
Large race
Great Expo
Florida beaches for off time
A little pricier but more to do.

been to gulf coast and raced rock n roll…i’ve had about all i can take of p.c.b. for the rest of my life…rock & roll was a good race. well put on by ga multisports and set-up inc…doing it again this year. if you register for rock & rock before the new year it’s only $100 which is a pretty good deal these days (and you got a shirt and socks)

Plus, you get to meet me at the ST meeting! chuckle

I live here in Macon, did the 1/2 this past June (my first!) and loved it. I’m doing it again this June. Going to try and shoot for sub-6hrs this time.

Never done GC but R&R was a good race this year. The course was challenging but fair (the swim was very short this year). The run got pretty hot toward the end. There are a few out and backs on the run course so you get to see people all the time.

Cheap lodging and eats around Macon. free beer and decent food after the race. Easy to get to. I would definitely do this race again.

from what i heard the swim course ended up being short because of a mix up between those that “plotted” the points for the swim course and those that laid it out…shouldn’t happen again. i’d be very suprised if we got lucky enough to use wetsuits again too!!
