roadies can’t swim or run (in his case they can’t ride either!)
I know for a fact swimmers can’t bike but what about the runners? I never seen a sub 6 minute mile runner averaged slower than 23 mph on an olympic course?
So what makes the runners potential good bikers but why it doesn’t work the other way? Why can’t bikers run?
(in his case they can’t ride either!) …hey genius, when you can do a sprint bike leg in less than 27 min, you can talk shit - btw, that’s averaging just shy of 28 mph. Let’s see what you got.
I can tell you that RV’s swim training for this race consisted of putting on a wetsuit the day before and doing a swim in a local lake just to verify that he could cover the distance without drowning. Good chance that the reason he “can’t run” is because he doesn’t. He’s not a runner and doesn’t claim or pretend to be one.
I say good on ya’ RV - here’s a guy who checked his ego at the door, and did his first tri on minimal (to say the least) swim and run training. Oh yeah…and he rode a century the day before.
I was a swimmer and while I’m FAR from Craig Walton or Andy Potts, I think I’ve picked up riding OK. One thing is for sure though…you’ll never see a rower turn into a good biker
You have to make two threads about the same idiotic thing?
So a retired pro can’t show up at a race in his HOME FRECKING town and just race for fun? No he’s got to put up with frelling tards like you who critisize his ever move.
I had heard from friends who take some of his VQ classes that he had said he wasn’t planning on doing the tri, since he hadn’t had a chance to work on his swimming at all this summer (well yeah, I wonder why not?). And I’m thinking the decision to do the race must have been a very very very last minute thing, because about 30-35 minutes before his wave, he was still hanging out in a t-shirt and shorts. (And many thanks to you Robbie for insisting I cut in front of several of you in the porta-pottie line, since my wave was going off in 5 minutes!) So good for him, knowing he wasn’t as prepared as he wanted to be but doing it anyway. Just because the guy’s famous doesn’t make him fair game to be ripped apart or mocked because he wasn’t fast enough. Maybe he just wanted to have fun on a nice summer day with his (now) fellow triathletes. From what I’ve seen he’s a nice, down-to-earth guy who doesn’t deserve your crap, so give it a rest. Sheesh.
I knew he was doing the race 2 months ahead, so assuming they informed him a week before the race???
Man, nobody signs you up for a race, you sign up, and you do it if you know you can race.
Didn’t have the time to train, last minute decision, somebody spiked my whiskey these are not excuses.

Why dont you show us your Tri PR’s, and best splits so we can make fun of them. Im guessing you are no where near 28mph in your bike splits. Im guessing that if Robbie did have time to train for the race his final outcome would have been quite impressive.
Oh, man, that is the funniest comment I’ve seen in a long time. Someone better call Lance Armstrong and tell him he can’t ride a bike. (and Dave Scott, and Mark Allen, and…)

Uh, this is slowtwitch and that was a public race. Everyone gets mocked and ripped apart. Why should famous people get a free pass? Everyone, including myself, is fair game.
I guess I don’t get your point about making excuses. Where is he making excuses for himself? Do you see him posting anywhere or writing that yeah, “I had a worse race than I thought I would, but that’s because…(insert excuses here)”? No, you don’t. Beforehand, he apparently said he might not race because he hadn’t practiced his swimming enough. Not an excuse, just explaining the situation. If I say “I might not be able to race this weekend because my bike is in the shop” - is that an excuse? No, an explanation.
As for signing up knowing you can do a race, you must be pretty special if you’ve never signed up for a race and then not been able to train as much as you would have liked. For the rest of us mere mortals, shit happens. Life gets in the way. If we can, we suck it up and do the race anyway, for fun, for camaraderie, for the experience. Why should RV be any different?
The pacing or whatever occurred with regard to that is a separate issue, and since I don’t know the situation there I can’t comment on it. But no, in general I don’t agree that pacing/drafting should be allowed only for certain people. Again though, that’s different from ragging on someone because of his times.
There were two bikes on the run course riding with him and they had Vision Quest jerseys. NO BIKES should be pacing runners! On a 5K? That is pathetic! But wait… he was coaching for Floyd right? Cheating is normal for him I guess.
