It wasn’t long ago, while sitting on the beach, listening to a podcast discussing Sly & The Family Stone, and their song “Everyday People,” that I learned the exact origin of that phrase

As impressive as the many performances were in the Summer of Soul documentary about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Fest, Sly and the Family Stone blew everyone else away.
Dude was a genius. Shame what the combo of drugs and mental illness does to a person.
It’s been on my radar but haven’t seen it yet. Questlove directed, I think.
