RIP Pete Rose

Maybe now they’ll let him in

The Hall of Fame or Heaven?
I’d say no better than a coin flip either way.

What’s the Vegas line?

I say HOF, but not right away - I’ll set the O/U at 2.5 yrs

We’ll shit, that is a lot of famous people dying in the past couple weeks. Got to meet him with my then very young son at a sports memorabilia place in a mall. Told my wife to look through the window, and of course she did and said what, who??? He was signing baseballs, 50 bucks for a signature, 150 if you wanted it to say “Sorry I bet on baseball”. Dude had a sense of humor about it at least.

I hope he gets in, always thought he should have been as compared to the shit that gets overlooked now that is 10x worse than betting on your own team to win…

Pete Rose the player, should already be in. Pete Rose the manager, should never get in.

Man, it is not a good month to be famous.

Pete Rose
Dikembe Motumbo
Kris Kristoffersen
James Earl Jones
Maggie Smith
Tito Jackson

Hassan Nasrallah

I distinctly remember when Pete got banned, was such a huge deal at the time!

Rose has roughly 2,000 more career hits than the leader among active players. Lots of MLB records won’t be broken because of changes in how the game is played (especially pitching records). Rose’s record might last a very long time — not primarily because of changes in the game — because he was that good at getting hits.

I really disliked him during his playing days. But, he should be in the Hall.

I wouldn’t vote him in.

Not a bettor like Charlie Hustle but I’ll take the under . Next nomination is up is Dec '24 for the Classic era. If he is not in by the second nomination in Dec '25 he is never getting in.

Phillies don’t have a home game until after the Wild Card Round, 10/5

I’m sure they’ll have something

And yet, Jimmy Carter turns 100 tomorrow.

Loved him as a kid when I was growing up. I started rooting for the Phillies when I was 7-8, so Schmidt, Carlton, and Bowa were already my favorites, but when he joined the team he was up there… I was never a talented athlete but I hustled, so identified with him.

My memory was that he’d gotten a lifetime ban - and if that’s the case, the ban’s over. Put him in Cooperstown, put his record in the books.

Virtue noted.
If and when his name is on a ballot he 100% should be voted into the HOF

That was the same era that I followed baseball and was a Phillies fan. Other than Ohtani I don’t think I can name a single baseball player today. Might recognize some Phillies’ names because I’ve heard my family talk about them.

just replying inline here.

Rose’s death had me wondering who was the last player-manager, sure enough it was Rose.

You’ve never heard of Aaron Judge or Justin Verlander or Mike Trout or Bryce Harper or Giancarlo Stanton or Jose Altuve, etc.?

That’s a good point; it wasn’t an Eternal ban

Shoulda been in the hof already.

I don’t know if mlb has embraced betting like the nfl has, but Rose’s ban has struck me as people serving time for pot possession after it became legal.

I’ve heard family members talk about Bryce Harper not the others. I’m pretty much only around my family a few days at Christmas.
