RIP Kris Kristofferson

Interesting life. Rhodes scholar, Golden Globe winner, Country Music hall of fame member, Army pilot, and various music awards for writing and performing.

Legend.

Golden Gloves boxer, varsity college football player…

The helicopter story is legendary!!!

That’s a Punk Rock moment!!!

Damn. I’m going to have another beer for dessert.

Ironic that he passed on a Sunday - I didn’t but it together until JUST NOW

Amazing life.

We try to claim him here as a local, as a Pomona College grad and then who taught here. We’re somewhat delusional about that, but I think that was at least something that influenced him. He was more than country. He was rock and roll. He was punk.

I’m not sad about an 88 year old passing. It was going to happen. But it was sad to see the decline over the last few years. It kind of mirrors my dad. Lots of memories.

Musician deaths that have impacted me:

Dennes Boon (D. Boon). Local Pedro kid, where I grew up and knew him. I remember when I heard. I was out of the country. My mom probably wrote shortly after, but I didn’t get the letter until around a month later. Still hurts.

So glad Patti Smith is still here. She continues to add so much.

What story?

he gave a demo to johnny cash to listen to, cash binned it, so he took an army helicopter, landed on cash’s lawn and handed him it, wouldn’t leave till he listened to it, cash listened, agreed to record it and the rest is history…

Most of the ‘‘helicopter story’’ is made up by Johnny Cash. Kristopherson did land a helicopter on Cash’s lawn but Cash wasn’t home and Kris wasn’t drinking a beer.

Good work by The Man in Black to make it into a legendary story!

Have to wonder how Kris, Cash and Waylon would view the current istate of the intersection of country music and politics.
