RIP David Lynch

78 yo

David Lynch, Maker of Florid and Unnerving Films, Dies at 78

A visionary, his films included “Eraserhead,” “Blue Velvet” and “Mulholland Drive,” which was considered his masterwork.

In the process of posting.

Damn. Damn

I was a fan of a lot of his work but some of it wasn’t my cup of tea. Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, and Mulholland Drive were my faves of his. I could never get into Twin Peaks.

Some of my fave scenes of his:

This is the water, this is the well

End credits of his last ever movie - best end credits ever:

Diner scene from Mullholland Drive - this has my heart beating so hard first time I saw it

Keep in mind - Lynch lived here during the Rizzo years, 1968-1983 (I moved there at the END of his regime)

“We lived cheap, but the city was full of fear. A kid was shot to death down the street … We were robbed twice, had windows shot out and a car stolen. The house was first broken into only three days after we moved in … The feeling was so close to extreme danger, and the fear was so intense. There was violence and hate and filth. But the biggest influence in my whole life was that city.”

Frank Rizzo was so bad, a statue of him was torn down!!! Talk about “cancelled”

damn, I loved all his movies. His offbeat level of quirk was just my style.

I also loved his cameo in the Fabelmans. He did not want to do it, but Spielberg convinced him. Awesome for us he did.

Before David Lynch came to Philly, he attended School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston

His roommate was a local - Peter Wolf (probably known as Peter Walter Blankfield, at the time)

Lynch “kicked him out” for being too weird

I’m my opinion , the best scene in the movie

We all knew the Spielberg “origin story” - Greatest Show On Earth at the Westmont Theater in Jersey, home movies, dad moving everyone around, etc.

But John Ford schooling him on horizons? That gets you to look at things. The only other directors of that time who were innovative in that way were Orson Welles and Alfred Hitchcock

And who better to portray John Ford than a director who does things … kinda “different” — LIKE Orson Welles AND Alfred Hitchcock

Needless to say, I’m a HUGE fanboy, sorry

100% agree. The movie, as a whole, is OK. I have no desire to watch again in totality.

That scene? I must have rewatched 25 times or so. His pitch perfect F-bomb is exquisite. It’s such a great scene.

Don’t forget his G rated movie. The Straight Story was a great film. Sissy Spacek with a fantastic performance.

I liked his stuff.

I keep forgetting that The Elephant Man was produced by Mel Brooks; he declined an Exec Producer credit to avoid confusion that it was a comedy like Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein

Lynch made some halfway decent music about a decade ago too

Goes without saying - Sheryl Lee delivered some of the best screams in cinematic history

Re-Watched Fire Walk With Me today (first time since Season 3 “The Return” I must admit) and you could almost see Bob coming in & out of her, and Leland

FWIW: Ray Wise is a villain on The Young & The Restless now - hard NOT to see him as Leland; probably exactly why they hired him

Ray Wise was perfectly cast in Reaper.

Posted elsewhere, I saw this

“Ouija update on David Lynch. He’s already been assigned an apartment, number 26. He spelled out, and I quote, ‘The Amana microwave still works real good.’”

Kevin Nash (WWE/WCW/NWO) puts David Lynch in same category as Anthony Bourdain, Hunter S Thompson, and Amy Winehouse
