RIP Brent Hinds

One less rock god walking amongst us.

Sad decline for him. When I heard the news my first thought was suicide.

I just came here to write about this. Loved his banjo influenced guitars, his singing was actually pretty good too. He seemed like he had a few demons - alcohol issues?

Great singing from him here:

He had a bit of Scott Weiland tenor in his vocals. Good stuff.

It’s a common way for people to go on a motorcycle, vehicle turning in front of them. My uncle was a professional street bike racer in the ‘80s, retired an opened a Can-Am shop, then was killed about fifteen years ago in similar fashion. Can’t get too comfortable and assume anything when you’re on two wheels.

Yep. I’ve responded to way too many of those.

Big Mastodon fan, here.

When I heard that he died, I’d assume it was an OD and related to why he was kicked out of the band.

This seems to be just a shitty coincidence.

Side note, I rode a motorcycle for about a year in college. Never again. They don’t scare me, but they are death traps! My FIL rode for about 15 years (55-70) until his riding partner went home on an ambulance after wrecking right in front of him.

My future son-in-law got in a really bad wreck a few years ago down in GA when a car turned in front of him. Busted a lot of bones and other internal damage, it was apparently touch-and-go for the first couple of days, but recovered (and got a pretty hefty settlement that allowed him to buy a house right out of college).

He doesn’t ride motorcycles any more.

Same. I get the appeal and I would love to ride. But no. You can do everything right and still get flattened by someone TikToking while driving. I also don’t ride the road bike anymore for the same reason … mtn or gravel only.

Yeah, I almost exclusively mtb now.

And that comes with it’s own risks. My rule now is at least one while on the ground at all times. And, when in doubt, walk the obstacle.
