Rim Tape HED 3?

This might be really stupid, but do I need to put rim tape on my HED 3 clincher wheel? Obviously there is no spoke holes so I am assuming not.

You don’t need to but I put a small strip over the valve hole. It looked a little rough around mine.

I’ve never used them on mine, it seemed to make it harder to mount the tire for some reason?
I cleaned up the aluminum with steel wool and put a 2 inch piece of electrical tape over the valve hole.
