Rigging the USAT election

Please tell me if I’m missing something here…

Email from USAT received today about the forthcoming elections. Here are the login instructions for the electronic ballot:

Your Username:
First Name Last Name (as it appears on your membership card)
Your Password:
Member Number (when typing your membership number, please take note that if your number begins with a zero, do not include that when logging in). Example: Member Number 01234 = 1234.

the problem is that this is all public data in many race results (eg http://www.y-events.com/07redontri.htm). So anyone could vote as me or I as them as long as I can their name in the race results is the same as on their USAT card.

So who’s going to pay me to get them elected?

Disclaimer: I don’t actually give a shit about the USAT elections and likely won’t vote but this seems utterly dumb.

Here we go…

has this come up before? I must admit that despite generally berating people I was too lazy to do a search today.

USAT elections were never a real election.
Remember when they had exactly one candidate for one seat?

I just tried my old, expired USAT# and it worked perfectly fine…Problem is, it shouldn’t be valid anymore (expired 3 months ago).

I refrained from voting, though.

The question I have as a USAT member living in Canada…what region do I fall into for voting purposes?

It’s not even supposed to be available until August 1st!

I’m not very up on USAT (this is my first year as a full member) but I remember some of slowman’s articles about previous shenanigans.

From the FAQ:

  1. What if my primary residence is outside of the United States?
You will be eligible to vote for the proposed Bylaw changes only.

I just found something about having to enter your dob too so maybe it is more secure than the email indicated…that would leave a 5 year range to work through based on the info in race results…I’ll have to charge more for my bogus votes if I need to do all that work

Not that it would ever happen but IF you were convicted of rigging a USAT election and sentenced to hard time in the slammer, how the hell do you explain that to your fellow inmates?

Funny, I noticed that too.

I think I’d rather tell them that I shot their granny or something than mention anything that involves wearing lycra and shaving my legs

I just tried loggin in…turns out you need an email address. Guess I should have checked first…

I’m still waiting for h2ofun’s impassioned defence of USAT here…

I was talking about my membership in general.

B.T.W.:
I like the poll on the main page.
You can keep voting…
I am writing a little script for it. But can’t run it till tomorrow.

LOL, how are you going to rig the poll? Are you making us out to all be Francois? If you get to 10,000 permanently injured athletes they’ll start worrying that no-one will show up to races

h2ofun is going to be pissed. there is no way USAT is competent enough to launch the voting site as well as the preliminary rankings page for 2007 on the same day. perhaps he will rethink his usat tatoo or his TEAM USA kit.

It might be worse than that - I heard that he’d decked the carboat out in full team usa logos

One more day to see if they can do two things at once. Since you folks seem to be able to predict the future,
amazed you all seemed to miss who would win the TDF.

Hello USAT computer wizzes!
You fixed the poll, but you forgot to take down my votes from yesterday.
