Ridley TT Bike today...Hmmm

(HTFU version coming soon?)
Not a chance, HTFU is something with soul. That frame is just a souless… thing.

So why would a company who designs and manufacturers its own bikes and has several carbon bikes already choose to use a generic time trial frame which was unproven in the TdF?
I think that the frame has a pretty good track record - seems there are a few Tri Geeks that are doing pretty well with the frame in other TT events (such as Ironman).

Excellent! Next time i see my friend i’ll ask him how he’s enjoying his “X-B14”

Back in March, the team won a team time trial on a Ridley Cronus. The rebadge bike is a generic carbon bike that anyone can buy and rebadge or more correctly badge (HTFU version coming soon?). So why would a company who designs and manufacturers its own bikes and has several carbon bikes already choose to use a generic time trial frame which was unproven in the TdF?
The Cronus and Cheetah are road bikes with TT bike names. Ridley themselves are a paintshop, manufacturing was never their thing. After the Windtunnel trip earlier in the year I assume PRL said that the Cronus didn’t cut it and Ridley looked for a cheap option rather than putting the time and money into a niche market bike. What surprises me is that they didn’t go for a Walser, maybe they already use XDS and it was easy to have another frame chucked into the order.

Why doesn’t Ridley use their own TT bikes? Does not make sense to use a smaller company’s bike instead of yours.
Ridley does use their own frames… Predictor Lotto uses the no name brand TT bike that is seen in these pictures. It was Predictor Lotto’s idea to go to that frame, and they probably asked Ridley if it was OK. It was Evans choice to do this, as he was the first one seen on it, and he is a TT specialist, SIMPLY: he probably knows its a better frame and fits him better than the Ridley.

What is the extra thingy over the front wheel?

seriously folks. this has been discussed multiple times on this forum. just do a search for carbon frame, there are plenty available, a lot of companies sell this same frame. It can be imported from Taiwan for around $700 including frame, fork and seatpost. It is a mass produced frame, ridley, planet x, velovie, pedal force, element6, louis garneau, stevens etc… They are all the same.

the difference is that planet x are the designers.
the others have bought the frame off the factory in taiwan

big difference in my opinion.

you might argue over the reason ridley got the frame (design or cost), but respect is due where it is due… planet x is a small company… and they now have their frame on the podium in the tour de france. bravo PX!!!

(yep, i am about to be a px owner myself. the interesting thing is that i was in an enviable position in that i am sponsored and can choose any bike i like)

So your saying Planet X designed it, and every one else copied it? and how do you know Predictor Lotto rebadged the planet x, what if they rebadged a Stevens, seeing as the u23 world champion on Predictor Lotto uses a Stevens TT bike…

Um…yer wrong.

Yes, they did. Their next TT frame should be a thing of beauty as well. The deal with the manufacturer in Taiwan was to sell the frames to others from the molds for a better “deal” for volume since once designed, molds made, etc. those guys can just crank them out like toasters …

Um…yer wrong.

hey! where did you get a photo of me from!!!

but it is true… unlike the other manufacturers, planetx have actually come onto this forum (and especially tritalk.co.uk) and said this.

i am not making a statement like “it is the best frame out there” or “it is the most aerodynamic frame out there”… but for me i love it; this bit **is **subjective… i have chosen a PX bike in part because for the same money as a P3C framset (at UK prices) i can get some great wheels and a powermeter. i think that if (big IF) i use the powermeter properly in training i will get a bigger gain than what i lose on the frames aerodynamics

here is a recent statement from PX over on tritalk…

“The frame was designed by planet x , tested by Spencer et al . In return for the factory paying mold costs , which we couldnt afford at the time , they are allowed to sell to others outside of the uk, in hindsight probably quite a dumb move by me as the factory have done a grea job selling this frame all ver the place , however there have been positives that wouldnt have happened otherwise including a world TT champs victory for Dominic Cornu (badged Dynatec)”

I know this is an old subject but I by accident came across this link and I think the PX/XDS frame looks awesome as a Ridley…
