Hey everyone, I have been contemplating buying a tt bike. would anyone who owns/has owned one give their opinions on the performance of the bike.
I have been riding a Dean 113a since 2011. I have had a great experience with the bike, it’s an attractive, pretty aero from and isn’t too hard for my LBS to wrench on for me. It’s nice insofar as you don’t see that many. The design is getting a little long in the tooth and they are do for an upgrade. It looks great with my race wheels.
Nice bike, how does it compare to others you have ridden? Also how does it perform as far as the run afterwards? I know that some bikes have a bigger “brick” effect than others.
I really miss mine. I had one, and ended up selling it to get into the “superbike” category. I think ultimately, the Dean was already there. I had the fastest race of my life on that bike, and it was SO darn comfortable somehow. I always ran pretty well off of it.
I would say unless you want to get a Shiv (which I now have and do like), get one - they really are stellar bikes.

My previous bikes were a Litspeed Saber, a Scott Plasma, and an Orbea Ordu. The Dean is as comfortable as the Ordu, which I found to be a very comfy bike. As far “brick effect” that’s a new one on me! Never heard of that. I suppose a very aggressive seat tube angle pure TT frame might make compromises that could effect the run, but really most bikes are adjustable enough to establish the best angle for you, I wouldn’t worry about that in regards to considering frames. For the price I think it’s a great bike, although that new P3 for a little more $ probably has a lot more new aero and integration technology.
I too have a Ridley Dean 113 and loved it.
They are very light, aero and comfortable in my opinion.
On race wheels I had it at 7.9kg, almost 1kg lighter than my Shiv so a fair difference there.
They allow for an aggressive position but also easy to change with spacers/different aerobars as well.
It was nice to arrive into transition with a unique bike at least in my area and I too had some great races on it so no complaints here.
Clearly, I prefer my Shiv now and would recommend a Shiv above a Ridley Dean but that’s a personal choice really.
Best of luck.

I recently purchased a 2012 Dean. Some sweet deals on this bike.
Rode a scott plasma 20 for 2.5 years and have found the Dean to be just as comfortable but a bit more challenging to work on. However, I’ll get up to speed on the intricacies, such as rear wheel offset screw and rear brake adjustment, in no time and all will be good.
For 2013, the only difference will be the addition of an electronic shifting compatible frameset.
Where are you located?
If you are in the UK, I have a small Ridley Dean frame & forks for sale (currently in a box in my cupboard) following my change over to a P5 with Di2.
