Riding in/near Omaha, Ne?

Are there any ST’s around the Omaha area? I go to school here, have my bike for the first time, and have no idea if there is anywhere decent to ride it. Thanks a lot.

Yes ! ton’s of great routes. Once the flooding goes away Iowa has some amazing road routes too. Stop in the Trek Store on 73rd and Giles RD for more info on things. Great mountain bike parks that are fun to run also. here is a link to all group rides in the area : http://grouprideomaha.blogspot.com/

which part of town are you located? On campus @ UNO or CU? Some parts of town can be hard to get outdoor rides during the week. I don’t think drivers here are very accustomed to having to share the road.

Thanks for the info. Im on the CU campus, so not exactly the best place for going out for a ride.

I live in Omaha near 50th and Cuming. My favorite ride: take Cuming Street/Abbot Road/Pershing Drive north until you get to the Mormon Street Bridge. Cut left and follow Hwy 75 through Fort Calhoun to Blair. Once in Blair cut west to the “Blair High Road” back to town. The High Road dumps off way north near 90th Street and you can get to the Keystone Trail pretty easily for a flat cruise back to Elmwood Park home. It’s a great route, 50 to 60 miles or so, wide shoulders the whole way with a few crazy hills, lots of “rolling” hills and some very pretty countryside. Google Map it to lock in the route.

It is a bit of a drive from Creighton but if you head out west toward Elkhorn there is a lot of great two lane roads that are rolling hills with little to no traffic. There is a Wed. night ride that leaves from Bikemasters at 6. There is also a loop that I do south on HWY 31 through Gretna to Louisville Ashland and back through Gretna.

We lived in the Elkhorn area for 10 months while I was in Omaha on a contract. I did a lot of riding on Hwy 92/77 west (West Center). It had good shoulders and was decent enough to take out the tri bike. There were a number of other county roads out west which you could get on and there was little traffic so I always felt pretty safe.
