Ride options

Hey all you coaches out there is Slowtwitch land.

Is it better to ride the trainer for 90 min right now to build the base, or use what light I have after work and ride for an hour out side? The lure to ride out side is very strong.

Hmmm.

I am **not **a coach.

But, when you ride a trainer for 60 minutes all 60 minutes is “meat”, in other words, all 60 minutes is training.

When you ride outside for 60 minutes probably 55 of it is riding, 5 is waiting at a stop light or accelerating/decelerating and maybe another 3-5 minutes is coasting.

Time spent on the trainer is well spent.

What about spin classes? I’ve been trying to make at least 1/week to break up the boredom of trainer rides. (It’s 5 degrees F. today – outside is NOT an option!) but the bikes are fixed gear, setup is different… Any thoughts on training benefits?

I’d ride for the hour outside and then tack on a 1/2 hour on the trainer when you get in. Best of both worlds.
