I’m wondering if anyone has advice on rehab’ing a strained rhomboid. Details:
- began about 3 weeks ago, following traveling (rental car driving + hotel beds + backpacks + airplanes = woke up with traps on fire)
- wide spread pain abated around 4 days, left with interscapular “knot” and focal deep tenderness, some radiation into upper traps & scalene muscles (not pain, more “don’t push it” feeling similar to having taken a hard hit); twinges in arm affecting all nerve roots (primarily ulnar distribution, radial to a lesser extent), no arm pain, no numbness
- tested negative for cervical radiculopathy (nerve root impingement or spondylosis); full ROM; bilateral strength WNR
- saw sports med doc (also my GP), who diagnosed it as strained rhomboid, possible hemotoma and likely causing sublaxation of a rib (thus hitting nerves in the branchial plexus); advised me to continue swimming (though no sprint sets) and strength training, get deep massage, NSAiDs, heat. Said it’ll eventually heal.
Swimming isn’t painful, but isn’t exactly comfortable. Idem for weight-bearing strength stuff.
Thanks for your ideas.
