Reynolds ouzo pro integrated fork

… i think understand the concept behing the integrated fork design and it make sense that the crown is made larger to meet up nicely with the headtube. but what i can’t discern is whether or not you still need a crown race on an integrated fork? i’m attempting to replace the fork (which was cut too short) on my cannondale r4000si, with a reynolds ouzo pro integrated. i wasn’t sure if i have to be concerned about removing and installing crown races or not…

… any insight is appreciated.

thanks!

redlab,

If you are asking these questions, surely you should recognize you are getting in over your head. Its time to take the frame and fork to your LBS and let someone with experience do this rather than do it yourself and screw it up. It may cost a few bucks at the LBS but that will surely be less expensive than replacing a Reynolds Ouzo Pro fork because a mistake was made or riding with a fork that was cut too short, etc. Give in and get it done right! The first time.

Redlab,

Integrated forks require a crown race just as non-integrated forks do. The problem is removing the crown race from an integrated fork. There is very little to “grab on to” making it likely that you will need a new crown race installed on your new fork.

I’d recommend talking to your LBS about it.
