Reynolds Alta Comp Wheelset

Has anyone had experience with this training wheelset and what was it like. I found a closeout and wondering if these wheels are strong enough as a daily trainer. The deal is hard to pass as long as the wheels are ok. Thanks.

I used a Reynolds Alta Race wheelset (still have it). Seem OK, but broke a FRONT spoke doing nothing in particular. Rim was so out of round after, that it was unrideable (was hitting the fork, forget just opening the brakes and wobbling home). Was a long walk I won’t soon forget. Internal nipples with low spoke count. Pretty “aero” for training wheels, but not very durable in my n=1 experience since I’ve done zero to my main training Ksyrium SSC SLs after 20,000 miles. Not even trued once! Also, getting up there in mileage on my Easton rims as well with nary an issue.

Basically a design flaw as the spokes tends to rub on the rim grommet. Nice wheels until the spoke(s) snap.

I have them on my road bike. they were a great price, have a decent hub, and have held up pretty well for me. Nothing spectacular, but they get the job done.

Thanks guys. It is either those or Easton EA50 set, will see.

I’ve got a pair that I picked up cheap to use as a training wheel. Done about 1000 miles on them so far with no problems.
