Revisiting Dean

Does anyone disagree with what Howard Dean said regarding the Republican Party? If so, why? I wanted to revisit this seperate from the abortion issue.

Seems that Bill Richardson, Joe Biden, Barack Obama and a few other Dems disagree with what he said.

I have read the official party platform of the Republican Party in every presidential election year going back to and including 1976 and can find no reference to what Dr. Dean alluded to.

I dont understand your answer.

Dean’s comments were racist and that of a bigot.

That being said…do you think I agree with the comments?

Yes, I disagree. Why? Because the party is not proposing bills to become law that would enforce Christian practices. As I said before when a bill comes to a vote on whether everyone should have to say the Lord’s Prayer in school, and accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior or be imprisoned … then we can talk. It is a politically conservative party, and some members, even the highest one, are white and Christian. How that turns into the group being the “white, Christian party” is beyond me.

I think I have an idea. If the republican party is the “White, Christian” party. Then the democrats would be “everything else”. So if you are “everything else, or against religion running the country” then you should (you are obliged to) vote democrat … namely Dean. Would that be a good guess?

I’m sorry.

gross generalizations that are Dean’s forte are things that I would rarely agree with.

So all republicans have never held a real job.

All republicans are just white christians

but aren’t all democrats people who live on welfare?

aren’t all democrats lazy selfish people who want the gov’t to provide for them?

Dean is an idiot and only further shows what an idiot he is by saying these types of things.

In general, he’s right. the GOP is mainly white and Christian. Like many others have noticed: no shit.

On the other hand, his comment about Repubs never having a real job was pretty stupid.

shhhh…you are a racist and a bigot.

There’s a world of difference between saying a group is “mainly” one ethnicity/religion and saying the same group is “all” one type.

I’m thinking Condi Rice either has one hell of a suntan or she isn’t a white christian.

obviously. but there was nothing racist or bigotted about dean’s remark.

Why not? Because he referenced only white christians?

Or because he tried to demean all republicans by labelling them in a specific manner?

Here’s the definition of bigot “One who is strongly partial to one’s own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.”

Seems to fit Dean like a glove.

seems to fit like a glove.

i’ll grant that per that definition of bigot, his statements fit. but i’d submit that in the common parlance, most people wouldn’t associate favoring ones own political views/partisanship as bigotted.

targeting white christians isn’t racist or intolerant?

There’s a big difference between favoring one’s own political views and the crap that Dean spews out on a regular basis. To equate his talk with that of the more moderate dems and repubs is like comparing a gentle summer breeze with a freaking hurricane.

but he isn’t the only one that I would consider bigotted. Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity and the like would fit the definition.

most people wouldn’t associate favoring ones own political views/partisanship as bigotted.

How is being white or christian a political or partisan view?

Dean makes the statement as if there’s something wrong in being white or christian.

How is stating that a party is predominantly white and Christian any kind of attack? His comments may have been ill advised and not politically astute, but they weren’t bigoted. He didn’t say that it was wrong to be either white or Christian. I believe he is in fact both white and Chrsitian himself.

So that’s the politcally correct terms for bigotry. “Not politically astute and ill advised.”

His comments were aimed at a specific race and of a certain religion.

So if he had said, “Most XXXXX are black and Rastafarian” those would be viewed in the same light?

I think not…

Boo hoo! You know one of these days you white christians will all rise up together and overcome those years of hate and oppression that have kept you out of the political arena.

Boo hoo! You know one of these days you white christians will all rise up together and overcome those years of hate and oppression that have kept you out of the political arena.

so, just because a given ethnicity hasn’t been oppressed for years they can’t somehow be discriminated against? That’s a pretty poor argument.
