Rev 3 Poconos

Just saw an announcement for REV3 Poconos. http://rev3tri.com/news/announcing-revolution3-pocono-mountains/

Does anyone know what the course will likely be like? Anyone know the venue?

On the short list for 2014.

It’s a slightly better date than what WTC tried.

Edit:
Looks like Toughman is different weekend.

If it’s the same course as WTC’s, then I think the better venue is Toughman.

If the site is the same, Rev3 has a few things to look at. THe swim is odd and hase a lot of zig-zags to it. If they could figure out a better route that would help a lot. Also, 2 transitions makes race setup and race morning logistics a nightware.

The bike is challenging and would be awesome if the roads were a little better on the return section. And please mark huge deviations in the road, last year was scary.

The run is awesome. Really enjoyed it. Uphill the whole way out, downhill the whole way back.

It will be interesting to see what they do with it, but Rich Izzo has the Toughman course going really well. Every year it makes me question why I still do triathlons. That race hurts!!

I doubt it will be the same course as the WTC one. I think its the weekend after toughman. Toughman falls on the weekend prior which is the same as Rev3 Cedar Point, OH.

FWIW I like back to back halfs. Race-recover-race.

First Branson, now Pocono. Is two a trend?

ooooh…this could be a nice way to finish the season.

Don’t think it is the same course. Have not seen course maps, but the release mentioned a “lake swim” and think that a lot of the course is localized to the Shawnee Inn.

Poconos 70.3 was a cluster logistically and started with poor planning from the start with the date selection. 3 Weeks is HUGE Pocono time… I spent one mid October in a few feet of snow with shut down roads, so that may only have been a couple weeks after the original Poconos 70.3 1st week in Oct start, but at least early September you have a chance for 70s by the run even

Will be interesting. That is Toughman weekend, which is popular with the NYC crowd. Not sure if they want to travel the excess distance for what I assume is a much hiller course.

I think its the weekend after Toughman. This year Toughman is the weekend after Labor Day. Rev 3 would be 2 weeks after

What about Lake George?

already doing that… but I may not be racing in august. so, i’m looking to do 1 more event.

I think Rev3 will take full advantage of this venue. Only downside I see is still having seperate transition areas which makes it a little unpleasing

makes it a little unpleasant? it makes it a nightmare in the Poconos.

i did enjoy the bike at the first Pocono 70.3 very much though.

Nice swim, should be warmer with the race being 2 weeks earlier, great bike, tough run. I did the last Ironman Poconos 70.3 and I’d go back for this.

I did Poconos last year as well, and would definitely go back, especially with Rev3. Beautiful area and a little warmer weather will make it that much nicer. Seems like they are cutting Stroudsburg out and keeping T2 at Shawnee, which will make the 2 transitions logistics tons easier. Race day was fine last year, but having to drive up to T1 and then down to Stroudsburg to drop gear off on Saturday was a pain.

I did it the first year and the bike was technical but some really nice views. I heard last year’s bike was a nightmare with some bad crashes.
The local support was awesome and probably the best finish line I have seen in a 70.3. However, the two transitions were nightmare. If rev3 figure out the transition issue then I might put this back on the radar.

Sweet… I’m game. I enjoyed the first Pocono 70.3 (couldnt do last years due to being 1700 miles away).

The press release states :

“We are taking over an existing race but streamlining it to give athletes and spectators convenience so they can focus on racing and not have to worry about logistics,” said Eric Opdyke, Revolution3 Race Director.”

I interpreted that as same course but with better handling of the point to point logistics. I did it the first year, but heard teh second year swim was in a lake on a golf course that was crystal clear. I disaggree with the poster above who said teh run was great. To me that was the worst, all those great roads and it was an out and back on a highway? The bike was beautiful, challenging, and technical with some hiccups, but I give it an A overall.

It will be interesting which race gets more interest, this or the supposed, rumored Garden State 70.3 in rumored late September.

Agree with this. I did both year’s and they were both a nightmare for different reasons. Year one: the locals were super-pissed about the race, getting around the day before was a pain (although not impossible), the swim venue was just a dumb decision, and the finish bag pickup was a mile away from the finish line. Year two: bike course was dangerous… I’m a bike-specialist and believe me when I tell you it was dangerous. The first year is was rainy and wet and it was still better then the first 1/3 of the last year’s course.

They need to completely cut out Stroudsburg… the downtown, the high school, everything. They need to try and make a single transition, and adequately inform the locals. I witnessed the very worst in human interaction the first year between locals and athletes. They need to either compress the race as much as possible or send us way out into the country on the bike and run. Even though the run course (Run for the Red course) is well established, the main road is super busy even before noon and the high school field issue was a debacle.

Good luck to Rev if they are serious though. I won’t be going back to race in the Poconos until the race is well established though. Black Bear is a nice spring race and their bringing back the half this year, and there are plenty of fall races in the northeast that don’t have the issues Pocono dealt with.
