Does anybody have any experience with it? Does it improve performance/endurance? Lab studies with mice have shown this.
Resveratrol is a polyphenolic compound commonly found in red wine that behaves as an antioxidant.
Marketing of antioxidants is big business, especially since there is no risk posed by having it be regulated/tested by the FDA.
Personally, I think resveratrol is a bunch of whoooey. Much more beneficial, is having that nice glass of red wine paired with a nice dinner. Watch your stress/tension melt away.

I’ll be having a glass of Cab tonight …
Reservatrol leads to the activation of something called AMPK. Activation of AMPK leads to more PGC-1alpha(nuclear transcription factor) which reduces the reactive oxygen species produced by the mitochondria. In muscle this pathway can increase the mitochondrial mass and in cancer cells this pathway reduces protein synthesis and cell proliferation.
Many things can activate AMPK: Reservatrol, AICAR (now a PED), metformin (drug for diabetes), adiponectin (hormone secreted by fat cells), exercise and caloric restriction.
You don’t need to take reservatrol. Exercise and have a glass of wine dinner if you want to.
Resveratrol does prevent against reactive oxygen species damage in the nucleus. It does this through activation of a protein that changes the way genes are expressed, and effects the overall structure of the genome. You cannot buy the synthetic resveratrol that was popularized on 60 minutes. It is still in human trials from Sirtris. You would also need to drink hundreds or thousands of bottles of red wine daily to see the benefits of synthetic resveratrol that was shown to increase lifespan and health in mice. Synthetic resveratrol is promising. At least glaxo smith kline thinks so since they bought the company developing sirtuin activators for almost 1 billion dollars.
Restrict your calories instead.
Is not hte commercially available version effective? Or are they sugar pills?
I wouldnt waste my time or money on supplemental resveratrol. Consumerlab.com tested several supplements on the market http://www.consumerlab.com/reviews/Resveratrol_Supplements_Including_Red_Wine_Grape_and_Polygonum_Sources/Resveratrol_Red_Wine/

Experiments that show effects in mice use ridiculously high doses of resveratrol. To get that with wine, you would have to drink gallons of the stuff every day.
I wasn’t suggesting that he get he drink wine until he achieves a dose of reservatrol comparing to animal studies. I meant he can drink a glass wine if he wants to, but exercise, caloric restriction and adiponectin are natural ways of activating the same pathway that reservatrol does.
The mention of drinking a glass of wine implies that it has something to do with activating the pathway. Because of the doses required, a glass of wine essentially has nothing to do with it.
So, you might as well have said “drink some hot chocolate” or “eat some celery” or any other random activity. But you said “drink a glass of wine,” so I chimed in.
