Results from Running VO2 Max Test... what do they mean?

Remember Vo2 max isn’t really an indicator of how fast you can go now or how fast you can go in the future. Some people have mentioned that your V02 max isn’t world class. But a 69 was high enough to propel Frank Shorter to a nice shiny medal around his neck where there were probably 100 guys with higher ones in his dust or sitting at home wishing they could go that fast.
It is true that a high Vo2 max is usually a common factor in fast endurance sports. There are however anomalies along the way. When I was at LSU we had a jogging class where we did treadmill testing with gas analysis for the freshman PE kids. We had a skinny 145 lb untrained Cajun kid from the bayou score an 81. The PhD couldn’t believe us and did redo him with the same result. The kid ended up going a 38 min 10k after a semester of running, but had no interest in athletics. We all were saying what a waste of talent, but the kid was pretty happy just being a kid.
