Republican says biking is wacky

In a hotly contested House race, the Republican is attacking the Democrat for advocating that people walk and bike to get places.

Last gasp for a Party out of ideas?

Take it to the LR, cheechako. We love that kind of stuff over there, and you’ll certainly get plenty of attention from more than a few on both sides of the aisle for the “last gasp” line.

T.

Exactly right.

One Republican says bikes are wacky.
If he’s right then all bikes are wacky.
Therefore all Republicans think bikes are wacky.

Uhhhh…isn’t the current Republican President an avid mountain bike cyclist?

T.

What I think is a whacky idea is reducing the gas tax when the world is low on oil.

=)

“Uhhhh…isn’t the current Republican President an avid mountain bike cyclist?”

There ya go, proving his point, bikin’ is wacky. See what it did to him? He was a runner before he took office, now this…all because of bikin’.

My wife tells me all the time that nobody gets me. I think this may help her argument.

How about this. The OP made it sound like since one Republican said bikes are wacky, that all Republicans think bikes are wacky.

Yup, move it to the lavender room, ahhh, politics, love me some pointless partisan bickering and feigned outrage.

My gawd…enough with the stupid Lavender room stuff in the regular Tri forum!!! Yeesh.

Actually its an RNC ad, so it could be argued that ALL Republicans are saying bicycles are whacky.

you MIGHT have blown this a little bit out of proportion. it is absolutely stupid, wacky, idiotic to think we are going to continue to grow our economy and to walk/bike everywhere. business is still done in a face-to-face manner. i can’t even begin to imagine trying to manage my sales territory of virginia to philadelphia on a bike. think my employer would settle for 10% of the normal business because i can’t afford to drive places? in order for our economy to move forward, we have to continue to do business. attempting to recreate some of the small european nations which bike everywhere is great, if you want a similar per capita gdp. if not, then a more sensible approach is needed; we need an effective energy policy. an effective energy policy advocates drilling in the short-term, and it exploits the growing worldwide demand for energy by harnessing something the united states can export worldwide. effective policy would reduce costs at the pump, add jobs, and create a tangible product which we could export. worst case we export services of how to implement the technology we develop. bikes are fun, but bikes are not the future.

In the context the Democrat is recommending it is pretty much the same as when Jimmy Carter told you to wear a sweater if you are freezing inside your house.

Biking is wacky as an alternative to bringing gas costs down via more domestic oil production and lower fuel taxes.

Ding ding ding – We have a winner. Very nice, Learn.

I should probably change my name to Old, Fat and Slow. Seems like the older I get the more I realize that everybody that disagrees with me is not an idiot and everybody that agrees with me is not a genius.

I worked in McGovern’s campaign as a teenager. Now, well, I just want to ride my bike!

So you ride for Coppi? I’ve heard great things about them - really exclusive.

My firm is likely going to sponsor Evolution (my brother is starting out with them himself).

I can’t stand it when posters do the 'ding ding ding we have a winner ’ routine. What are you the judge and jury? A little arrogant don’t you think.

Hey everybody contest is over. no more posting allowed on this one…

KInd of like when George Bush suggested that the solution to global warming was to “wear light clothing.”

Or Reagan suggested that rather than control ozone-depleting CFC’s, Americans should wear sunscreen and a hat.

No I do not ride for Coppi. As of now, I am unattached. Even in the 3/4 races, I have seen no need of a team.

So you are content with 12th place behind most of those small European nations ? A little fact check from wikipedia:

Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Finland and the UK to some extent, all fit your description of small countries in Europe who extensively promote cycling for transportation. I don’t even have to remind you about differences in wealth distribution between those countries and the US.

You should try going to the world bank and doing the numbers yourself, “fact checking” from wikipedia is about as cool as genital warts…
