Replacing my FSA Crank with an Ultegra 6700

I am replacing my crank, do I need to replace the bb as well? Bike is a '11 Slice, comes with BB30, it is my understanding Shimano makes no BB30, did I make a mistake by purchasing this crankset?

It is also my understanding FSA is no bueno…help?

I searched the forums couldn’t find this answer.

You will need a Shimano BB.

For the BB30 adapter, look for something similar to this http://www.competitivecyclist.com/product-components/2011-wheels-mfg-bb30-adapter-for-shimano-7624.2767.0.html

there is nothing wrong with the fsa crank from 2011.

It may be slightly better than the shimano + adapter. But these differences (a few grams of weight, a few immaterial bits of stiffness) are meaningless really.

I would just leave it personally, and sell the ultegra crank. Unless you think the bike looks a lot better with the ultegra.

It’s not even about the looks, I see the teeth on my outer ring wearing down, it’s only been about 1000 miles the most. I haven’t had the bike that long either. I understand there is wear and tear that is going to happen, however this much this quick is a little out of hand.

I had a felt prior to this bike, with an Ultegra crank, no complaints there.

Maybe just replace your chainrings then instead of the entire crank. Save your self cash, time and hassle.

or just replace my crank with something that has not bothered me before.

Onto my next question. Which Shimano Ultegra Bracket will fit the 11 slice? English Thread BB? or the other one, and i know that i will need the adapters as well, i’ll order some from somewhere.

Thanks for the information everyone.

+1, the durability of the chainrings is a seperate issue…

anyone know which bottom bracket i purchase, and which adapters will work?

Maybe I’m not understanding but if you currently have a bb30 crankset then all you need is the bb30-shimano adapter for the Ultegra cranks. You can’t put a a shimano bb in a bb30 bottom bracket unless you use a press sleeve (a whole other deal). Sounds like you just need the adapters to work with your existing bb30 bearings.

so put ultegra chainrings on it. easier install, cheaper.

Are you sure the teeth are wearing down? Current outer chainrings have the teeth cut at various profiles to aid in shifting. It helps the chain catch the big ring faster. It looks like many of the teeth are ground smaller than the others, but in fact they are supposed to look like that.

So you will put the Ultegra crank on and say the same thing in 2 months. Chainrings are totally different than years ago, some teeth look like they are hardly there, this lines up with the ramps. Unless you live/ride in total dirt, your rings should last years not months.

This makes more sense. I have been researching the adapters, and it was making more sense, I just needed confirmation. Thanks.

After all the research I’ve done I saw that. Looks like it’s (the teeth) supposed to be that way
