Replacing CAAD10 Fork

Had a bit of a mishap over the weekend. It involved a failing roof rack and a brand new CAAD10 I bought a month ago. Needless to say, the fork cracked. Cannondale isn’t able to sell a fork to me by itself. I’m still trying to get with my auto insurance/Yakima to see if any of it’s covered, but wanted to know if worst case scenario, what are my options? Will the supersix evo fork work?

I kind of want it to match the white/lime scheme.

Try this website for all your Cannondale needs. I do believe that all Caad 10, Supersix, Evo’s are the same frame dimensions. (Could be wrong) So you could get any fork.

I’m actually leaning towards getting a dengfu (or the like) fork now. I think bare carbon looks better than red/green combo.

My question is now whether I can find a fork with a 1 1/8 to 1 1/4 steering tube like the stock caad10 fork… I only see straight 1 1/8.

Do you really want to put a miss matched fork on an almost brand new bike? Won’t Cannondale do a crash replacement on the fork?

30% off a new frameset… That’s a bit more than I’m able to afford.

Did you call Cannondale or did you go to your shop?

If you didn’t go to your shop, I’d ask them to call their Cannondale rep and see what he could do.

I called the shop and the shop employee said that’s all they were willing to do… Is it something I should press harder or just let it be? I’m still waiting to hear from Yakima (assuming the delay is due to the holidays).

If the shop employee said, while on the phone with you, that’s all they were willing do, then I doubt they called their rep. If they called their rep and that’s what the rep said, then you are probably stuck.

Did cannondale say 30% a new frame or did your shop say 30% of a new frame? I am almost sure you can order a fork from cannondale and i would just call cannondale if you have no done so already. All LBS are a pain to deal with and if they said 30% i am sure their margin is 40-45% on a frameset and they are just trying to make some money, when in reality they could just sell you a fork.

Oh and the cannondale experts website is really good, i have ordered several parts from them in the past for my CAAD10.

What was odd was the fact that the LBS employee stressed that Cannondale lacks the infrastructure in the factory (and is subsequently unwilling), to part out fork from frame. I’ll gladly give them a call, though.

Thing is, I bought this bike off a fellow STer. It was still packed up in the box when I received it. Does that impact the situation?

There’s always this one:

I’ve seen others make the rounds on ebay as well.

I crashed a Caad 10 in spring of 2013. I thought my fork was the only thing that needed replaced, so my shop got me one in less than a week (matching my color scheme, no less).

I ended up needing a whole frame because I discovered a couple small dents. But my point was that the fork was very easy to order. My sponsor shop is Ride On Wooster in Ohio, if all else fails they might be able to help you. Tell them Joe Holmes referred you, and tell them what you need.

There are two dents in the top tube – should that be something I’m worry about? I thought, since it was aluminum, it was strictly cosmetic.

Mine had a fairly shallow dent in the top tube from the handlebars swinging around. It also had a very tiny dent on the seatstays near the seat tube.

I replaced mine, because I really do not want to take chances with a tube buckling during a sprint, etc. I was still able to get about $300+ out of the frame on eBay, with full disclosure about the damage. So I wasn’t out nearly the full amount of the replacement frame.

Stand on an empty soda can. Now have someone flick the can to put a dent in it.

This is the worst analogy ever and proves nothing other than your ignorance. Happy freaking new year to you, too.

I would push your shop or talk to a different shop, you can 100% purchase a fork from Cannondale. Most shops just make up crap to get out of calling up a brand and having to go through some paperwork, in particular if you did not buy the bike there. One of the many reasons why the LBS bike business model is stupid.
