I’ve got a pair of HED Stingers with Continental GP tires. The valve stems don’t extend thru the rim so they have extenders. No surprise there. The issue is that one of the stems seems to be stripped. The extender on it turns endlessly. Switched extenders and then the other extender spins endlessly. So it seems that the extenders are fine and the valve stem threads are the culprit. Since the tires are tubular inspection is not a trivial matter. It seems stupid to buy a new tire because of this. Is there a way to fix it without removing the tire? Is there an extender that threads into the valve stem, replacing the core and bypassing the stripped threads on the outside?
yeah. if the tires have tubes with removable valve cores, there are extenders - continental, vittoria, and others all make them - that screw into the valve. you remove the valve core, insert the extender, and then replace the valve core at the end of the extender.
might be tough to get the valve core out while the tire’s glued on, but i guess it’s probably possible.
If the core is removable you can use an extender like a Tufo valve extender that will screw on and replace the existing one. That’s what I do on a set of clinchers I have and it works great. Much easier than the Zipp extenders, at least for me.
Other option is maybe adding some extra teflon tap to see if it would catch when you screw it on.
Last hope you could try some J-B Weld.

Thanks!
I hadn’t realized there were options that went inside the stem. Just ordered two.
Good luck! Hope it all works out well.
Just to add, to remove the valve core and replace the stem will require you to remove the tyre anyway, so expect a tyre removal and re-glue job.
