I am finding it difficult to find a good shop that will rent me a decent level of road bike in the San Francisco bay area. I would appreciate any suggestions people can offer. I am staying in the San Ramon area on the east side of the bay. I am in the area for a few days every 6 months or so.
Call Chuck at Livermore Cyclrey in Livermore. They used to rent good quality bikes. It’s about 10 miles South of San Ramon.

Are there any shops in the City - downtown - that will rent a good bike for the weekend?
Also, are there any groups and/or single riders that would be interested in doing a ride with a non-local to show them some good bike routes? Say 50-80 miles on Saturday and Sunday morning of April 25th/26th?

Warning, blatant plug for a business I own. Cover your eyes!
Check out BikeConcierge - we deliver high end road (Look, Lynskey, Cyfac) bikes to your hotel w/ maps, nutrition, your favorite saddle & pedals. PowerTap & carbon wheel (Zipp & Reynolds) upgrades available. Mostly Silicon Valley/South Bay but we go out of our normal delivery area for a little extra.
Subscription packages available for regular visitors to the area.
We also offer BikeStash - leave your spare bike with us, we’ll maintain & deliver it when you are in town & store it when you are not.
Other options for high end road bikes, not so sure. Lots of low-medium range rental outfits in San Fran but they cater more to the “cross the bridge” crowd. Bike n Roll, Blazing Saddles, etc. I don’t think anyone delivers like we do.
Ok, commercial done. Sorry if I’ve overstepped…
I’m pretty sure Lombardi Sports rents bikes that are at least passable. Sports basement would be my 2nd try.
I’d be happy to take you on a 50-80 miler one of those days. PM me to arrange.
Perfect. Thanks. Getting something setup right now.
These guys too (right near Fisherman’s Wharf):

Easy out and return, decent carbon bikes, good maps and suggestions, pretty danged reasonable when you compare costs of packing, shipping, setting up, worrying, your own bike.
