Rent a Swim Skin for IMTX

Is there somewhere that allows you to rent swim skins like they do for wetsuits?

Google wasn’t very helpful :frowning:

Thanks for the help

We rent more wetsuits than anyone in Houston, but don’t rent a single swim skin. Sorry.

Likely classed as swimwear… so kinda like renting a Speedo. Try the classifieds.

I have one that I could bring. It is a TYR Torque in a size small.

yeah the problem is they aren’t really that durable so if I was going to “rent” mine I would probably want 1/3 the purchase price. Which you wouldn’t want to pay : )

Can you use a TYR Sayanara for IM races? If so you can borrow mine for free. And it is the fastest swim skin ever made (which is why it is probably not allowed).

You can go see TJ at Swim Shops of the Southwest, or our (Aqua Sphere) booth at the expo, and I’m betting that you will find the best price on a speedsuit in Houston.

Our Energize Speedsuit provides the hydrodynamic benefit along with a medium compression textile to support and go fast. Our suits are also sized by swimwear sizing which offers more sizing options. This allows you to narrow down the sizing and find the right fit.

If you need any help finding one, please let me know.

Thanks for the reply all - Jakers I may have to come check you guys out.

But maybe a little clarification is needed for me. I’ve been doing a little more research and I guess I misunderstood what a swimskin is at first.

Apparently its just for the hydrodynamics, and doesn’t add any buoyancy?

Are shorts like “roka sim shorts” allowed in non-wetsuit legal races? If so, wouldn’t they be faster than a swimskin?

Thanks

you are correct the ROKA sim is classified as a wetsuit. The swimskins repel water which is, well, awesome. If you take me up on the Sayanara you will have buoyancy.

The suits are meant to provide a hydrodynamic surface that reduces drag and most suits provide some compression benefit. You should see somewhere between 2-5 seconds of benefit depending on your swimming efficiency.

As for the older rubberized suits, they are not permitted by WTC rules. This includes the Sayanora.

The discussion about a pair of neoprene shorts being faster than a Speedsuit is questionable in my mind. But I haven’t seen a side by side comparison. The neoprene shorts, as AJ mentioned are considered a wetsuit. A textile speedsuit is allowed.
