Reno 911

After a busy week and half setting things up, I finally got out on my bike today. For those of you familiar with Reno, I just did one loop around McCaaren, starting and ending at El Rancho. All I can say is wow! After 30 minutes (I went the hilly way first) I decided that if the climbing didn’t loosen up I wasn’t going to be able to finish the ride. It definitally flattens out on the south side of town and back into Sparks, but there are a few climbs that are just brutal. (Remember, I’m coming from Michigan.) Makes me really question wanting to do that 75 mile route around Tahoe. Reno is definitally going to make me a tougher athlete!!

My hat is off to all cyclists/triathletes who can power up these sort of hills/mountains. Anyone else have any so called “moments of clarity” when you realize just how NOT tough you are and how rediculously strong other athletes are?

I had that moment of clarity on my second loop at Lake Placid during Epicman.

I had that moment at the bottom, yes bottom of the Beast in St. Croix. That is where my legs locked up and said get off this bike or I will get you off. As I was walking and cursing my way up the beast watching others cruising up I realized that the bridges in my town are not that great for training.

That’s an awesome ride (for something so close to town). Good beginner climbing route  You’ll be strong in no time.
