is there anything I should know about what products would be best to use to get the old glue off? The previous owner of the wheels last glued tubies on them in 2002 and before using them myself I definitely want to rip them off, clean them up and reglue them (I’m actually planning to use the tufo extreme tape which being inexperienced with tubies seems a less error prone solution).
I’ve heard of various solvents that can be used, but I wouldn’t want to risk damaging my new wheels (404) so I’d like to know what people here do to get the old stuff off and the rims as clean as they were new.
Regarding valve extenders: do you prefer to use the type that screws on top of the valve (and take them off when riding normally, so just leaving them on when inflating the wheel) or the ones that go between the valve and the tire and always leave them on? Is the added mass in the second case negligible in your opinion?
