Removing dura ace crank

I am trying to remove an ultegra and a dura ace splined cranks - my tool just goes into the hollow BB and wont do anything. I’ve tried using dimes and have destroyed 2 that way. Any tips on how to do this would be really appreciated

Well, you have a couple of options. What you need is a “stop” that most crank removal tools now come standard with. You insert it before inserting the crank tool, and it does the job you were hoping the dimes would do. I’m sure you can order one online for next to nothing, but I’d also bet your lbs probably has a few extra lying around they might be willing to part with.

Or you can use a bolt and washer of the appropriate size diameter to fashion one yourself. So, if your local harware store is closer/easier, that might be the way to go. Hope this helped.

dude.

  1. disregard that post above entirely.

  2. put the mounting bolt back in.

  3. put the dust cover back on, snuggly

  4. slide your large allen wrench into the hole in the dustcover, and back the bolt out till it hits the dust cover.

  5. crank harder, and the bolt will push against the dust cover and pull the crank off.

  6. where were the sage s-twitch bike guru’s all day?
